Default Orange County Badminton Club, Orange, CA

Since there is also other clubs in the So Cal area, it is only fair if Kwun also open the new thread for them like OCBC, and MBBC

Is that a Club? From what I've read and heard up here in Canada it sounds more like a cult!

will be happy to as long as it doesn't turn into a thread about OCBC politics. i think most badminton players have enough of those discussions.

Thanks Kwun for creating this thread. But from what i have observed for a few years now, compared with other badminton related Forum, Badminton Central moderators have always been very fair and objective when come to point of views and its opinions. Plus their moderators have been very strict in maintaining proper order and quick in giving warning when seeing stuffs getting out of hand or turning into politics and character bashing or character assasination. Whereas other forum tend to be rather subjective and did not give proper warning when things got out of control. My main purpose for the creation of this thread is for informational only to badminton players in the States and also all over the world since Badminton Central has readers from all continents. But if there is any one from any where is trying to use this thread to stir something out again, please by all means, give them warning or even block their posting right or access. THanks.

OCBC limits the brands: OCBC and Yonex; however, you can find them via your own source, not only from the in-situ shop.

Samkool, OCBC is a private club and it does take money to run it. Having to use their birds doesn't seem that bad to me. It's just part of being a member there. True, the price for the birds there are a bit more than what you can get outside, but if you buy in bulk, it's pretty cheap. With people complaining about the price of OCBC, you should take a look at the new clubs openning up in N.Cal. They are about the same price as OCBC.

The rules and behavior of a club is "All part of price you pay" when you join. There is always a balance. Member should put on a business person's hat before complaining and club owner should just shutdown before complaining about losing money. For the members, it is very simple: Work within the rules and Vote with your own pocket book. For the owner, it is more complex, there are various aspects to balance: money, fame, and stature. It is not just money alone.

Default Ocbc Group Training Program -

    1. Regular OCBC Group Training Program:

The Regular OCBC Group Training Program is an intensive, year-round training program for selected participants who trains for three hours per day in the afternoon from Mondays through Fridays with the OCBC Coaching Staff:

    Cai Zi Min
    Coaching Manager

    Ignatius Rusli
    Coach

    Tony Gunawan
    Coach

    Eti Gunawan
    Coach

    Cindy Shi
    Coach

Participants have the opportunity to train with some of the best coaches in the United States as well as to practice and play with some of the best United States badminton players in the OCBC Elite and Junior Teams.

The annual program fee for the regular afternoon session is $7,500.00*, which works out to less than $9.75 per hour* of training!

Only participants in the afternoon group training program have the option of adding training in the morning for two hours per day from Mondays through Fridays by paying the annual program fee of $2,500.00* for the morning session (total fee for five hours per day, Mondays through Fridays: $10,000.00* per year.)

    2. Introductory OCBC Group Training Programs:

For 2005, the following Special Introductory OCBC Group Training Programs headed by Coaching Manager Cai Zi Min are open to first-time participants with a maximum age of 14 years old:

2 days per week from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM - $2,000.00 annual program fee*.
3 days per week from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM - $3,000.00 annual program fee*.
5 days per week from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM - $4,000.00 annual program fee*.

The 2 & 3 days per week introductory programs are a great deal since the hourly training cost for the entire year works out to less than $6.50 per hour* of training! The 5 days per week introductory program is an even better deal at less than $5.25 per hour* of training!

    3. Non-Local Resident OCBC Group Training Program:

The Non-Local Resident OCBC Group Training Program is open to participants who have residential addresses that are located more than 50 miles from OCBC (proof of non-residency required).

The monthly fee for this training program is $1,000.00*. This fee must be paid at the beginning of each month. Alternatively the fee for this training program can be paid daily at $50.00* per day.

Participants in this program will have full access to both the regular afternoon group training sessions and the morning group training sessions of the Regular OCBC Group Training Program and will have full OCBC membership benefits while they are in this training program (an OCBC membership not required for this particular OCBC training program.) Training shuttlecocks are also included.

    * Important notes:

    A. All the listed annual program fees are for participation in the admitted group training program through the end of the calendar year regardless of when the participant starts training in the group training program. There is absolutely no discount for starting participation after January 2nd.

    B. All group training program fees are non-refundable and must be paid prior to participation in the group training programs.

    C. Except where specifically noted, all OCBC Group Training Program participation requires OCBC membership, which is not included in the training program fee.

    D. All OCBC Group Training Program participation requires approval by the OCBC Management.

    E. Group Training Program participants do not automatically become members of either the OCBC Elite Team or the OCBC Junior Team (admission to either team requires separate OCBC Management approval.)

    F. None of the OCBC Group Training Programs include any lodging or meal arrangement.

    G. All the information regarding the OCBC Group Training Programs are subject to change without notice.

Please contact OCBC Manager Tim Mangkalakiri (timocbc@aol.com) if you are interested in participating in any of the above group training programs or if you need more information.

    Default 05 WORLD Championship

Congratulations to Tony G & Howard Bach for making a history at the first World Championship in the US soil. There is never be a better time than this one because Badminton Worldwide needs a big boost in order for the sport to grow to the next level. All we need is to confince American corporations that badminton is not a backyard sport as it has notoriously been labeled with.

Thanks to Mr. Don Chew for having such a vision 9 years ago. He has single-handedly transformed US badminton into world wide mao.

Thanks to Tony & Howard for making such a dream become reality.

Please keep up the good work !!!!!!!!!

Default Congratulations to OCBC for bringing home a world championship medal, America's 1st

Tony and Howard were simply awesome all through the tournament and such gracious winners too!

And awesome applies to OCBC too, being the home gym for 7 of the 9 U.S. representatives in the 2005 World Championships.

    Gon Bui!
