That guy sitting alone at the back of Rian & Eng Hian with a curious look is Antonius, former world #1 double [with his partner, Denny Kantono] and 1996 Atlanta Olympic Bronze Medalist. Anton is now a doubles specialist coach at his old club, Djarum... that was why he was very focused in watching that Rian-Eng Hian match...

Anton and Denny were excellent as Indonesia's #2 pair throughout the mid-1990s [actually, only around 10 years ago]... but they were always overshadowed by the very very very famous and awesome #1 pair ...Ricky Subagya - Rexy Mainaky, the 1996 Gold Medalist...

    Default It's like this..

..the MD coaches say : "Rian and Fran will have different partners..or if anyone else have any ideas"..
(Krisna, C L BAO and yannie raise their hands)..
    ..Krisna says : "Yoke-Fran or Sigit-Rian or Rian-Ahsan or Fran-Ahsan or Rian-Luluk or Fran-Luluk will work"..
..and then the gals, C L BAO & yannie, in one accord, say : "No no no, don't make it complicated, Krisna, let's do it the simple way and for the benefit of the fans, which should be Rian & Fran.."...

..for refreshing our memory, Krisna..Yeah, coach Antonius looks somewhat familiar, but maybe a bit different now being a bit "plumper"..

Hahahaha that's correct!!! You know what? Rian loves to use Chinese words.. Some of his favourite words are "Wei, ni hao ma?" and "Yup, dui".. now he is beginning to say "Xie xie ni".. LMAO!!! Oh yeah, I think he's pretty fine now - about training.. didn't complain about headache today.

Confirmed by Rian himself that he's playing with Yoke this year - 2007.
    Frans with Sigit.

First upcoming tournament is Indoleague. Then they'll participate in Thailand Open, Phillipine Open.
Perhaps India Open, Taipei Open, Dutch Open, Denmark Open, French Open etc.
    But not World Championships.

They SHOULD participate in all the Gold GPs like Thailand, Philippines, India and Chinese Taipei. As for the European tourney....quite uncertain...

    For their own best, yes.
I don't mind if they skip all the Asian GPs, but they MUST come to Dutch, Denmark, France. Just kidding.. I know they have to raise their ranking..

Default Yoke better looking than Fran! So, Rian-Yoke is better!

Let's just wait for the Indonesian Superliga Badminton [next month], the Thailand Open, and the Philippines Open etc. ...

So now we are 100% certain. Yannie and C L Bao, sorry about the unrealized Fran-Rian combo... [this year] Maybe in the coming years...

But seriously, I think Yoke is not a bad looking guy either... Ok, I am a guy, so I am definitely not a good judge here... Do you know what Yoke looks like? Isn't he better looking than Fran?

If yes, then following the arguments made a few posts ago,
    Rian-Yoke is better than Rian-Fran!

Yes, we're 100% sure about this combination.

Of course I know how Yoke looks like.. Many people - even Indonesian players - tell me he is handsome.. hahahaha.. but, well I still prefer Fran. (Mei Ying and C L BAO, you girls know the reason *ha)

    Default Playmaker-Executioner combo...

Hahahaha! No, Rian-Yoke is better for fans! I mean the OVERALL badminton fans [not just the female fans], because Yoke has fancy trickshots and trapshots, a la Sigit Budiarto. More entertaining for the male fans! Fran and Rian are the 'executioner' type! They will win a lot! Great Indonesian doubles are usually a combo of playmaker + executioner...

Remember Christian Hadinata-Ade Chandra? Christian was the playmaker, Ade was the executioner.
Remember Eddy Hartono-Rudy Gunawan? Eddy was the playmaker, Rudy Gunawan was the executioner.
Remember Ricky-Rexy? Ricky was the playmaker, Rexy was the executioner.
Remember Tony-Candra? Tony is they playmaker, Candra is the executioner.

I wonder what that is... Because Yoke is too skinny? Ok, I'm not going to begin to speculate anymore...

Hmm... Krisna, that kind of playmaker-executioner won't work these days... Both players must know how to trick the opponent to give high shots, and kill... It's hard to just realy on one person... Btw, Yoke's tricks are not as good as Sigit... I think Rian should try sigit, at least for a few years, Sigit will still be there... Without partner, he'll really retire...

Surely the role cannot be exclusively/purely playmaker-executioner... I agree with that. Even in the old days, both players have to be pretty good at everything. Surely their shotmaking quality has to be world-class in every department. But the executioner usually have the above-average power and the playmaker usually have the extraordinary technical ability or net coverage that will create extra problems for the opponents... I would even argue that KKK is the playmaker, TBH is the executioner...

As for Sigit... yeah sure he can partner with Rian easily. Up to them... Oh in case you don't know, Sigit is not without a partner. Sigit-Fran is an active pair.... [although not spectacular yet]. Not every partnership started out like KKK-TBH... ...who by the way has been loosing a lot of matches lately [Asian Championship, Singapore Open, Indo Open, etc.]. KKK-TBH just lost to the English pair yesterday at the Sudirman Cup opening match.
