I think that we still not forget Morten Frost, Prakash Padukone, Han Jian, Brothers Sidek (Misbun, Rashid and Jaelani), Ge Fei/Gu Jun, Ye Zhao Ying, Rudy Hartono, Liem Swie King, Punch Gunalan, Tan Joe Hok, Icuk Sogiarto, etc...... They are invited on 16 July to come to Jakarta for DUEL between them. This event take place in Jakarta when ABC organize an Annual General Meeting. Also there is a Asian Junior Championship. I really want to wacht they play, but..... I can't go to Indo right now. :crying:
thats great.. hope someone have it recorded... i rather watch them play than watching lindan vs taufik at the moment.
I agree. I like seeing old champions playing. It's like seeing Senior tour Golf, with excellent shots and swings.
Sorry Jo, I don't know where. But I think one of these three places : Istora Senayan, Senayan Tennis Court (where the Thomas and Uber were held) or ABS Badminton Court next to Hotel Mulia. Or maybe in Cipayung training centre.
No offence intended, but can some of the older players still take the physical stress of badminton even recreationally? For instance, Rudi has had several heart ops., I think. However much I'd want to see him play again, it wouldn't be wise for him to strain himself on the court, I should think. Morten Frost, Swie King, Icuk, Misbun and Zhaoying, OTOH, now they look like they can still compete with the current young turks. And win. BTW, I'd love to see Icuk comes up against Yang Yang again. What's he, 1-8 lifetime against YY?
It will not be fast games.. more like a chess match on the court. Misbun still have the skills i assure you that.
I read in the newspaper today that the duel between the legend will be held on 21 July at mangga dua square
150 Badminton Courts The news is kind of unclear, but Gelanggang Mangga Dua Square is not located in Mangga Dua, but in Dukuh Atas to Jembatan Semanggi, 5000 seats, and can hold 600 players simultaneously, the courts are 3 km in length. So, assuming everyone plays doubles, I guess there are 600/4 = 150 badminton courts!!! Would this be the largest badminton facility in the world???
It is a new sport hall. I red it in Kompas date 22 May. Mangga Dua Square arena with 5000 seats will be openned officially medio June.
I read about the news also, where they will hold a simultaneous badminton match in the middle of the street(Jl. Sudirman), also during the conference AGM-ABC(Annual General Meeting-Asian Badminton Confederation) July 11...Wonder if this will be held in open-air or closed..The ABC Junior championship will also be held at the same time.. I will go to Indo, but most likely this coming mid June not July, so I won't be able to go and attend the festivities.. Perhaps aiyuuw and others living in Jakarta can attend and take some pics and post here??..
The simultaneous badminton will be held on the street, more clear.... on Sudirman avenue, from Dukuh Atas to Semanggi fly-over. So... open air. There will be 150 badminton courts for 600 players. They will play in the same time to book a world record. But the Gelanggang Mangga Dua Square is a new sport hall with 5000 seats. So... not open air. SteveStanley, Aiyuuw, Jofianty or BFer from Jakarta, can you confirm this ?
im afraid i cant, bcos that one news i found is that news from kompas, so u see, pbsi has some events to throw, and those are: -annual abc meeting -something about breaking the record on sudirman street, this is what u all talking about badminton courts from dukuh atas to semanggi bridge, and this is what they are talking about when they talk about something that can hold up to 600 players (about 3 km), so i suppose thats not a building -and that legend duels we all talking about, it will be held in gelanggang mangga dua square, and so its not located in dukuh atas nor semanggi, the only mangga dua square i know is located in north jakarta, (i live in south jkt) and i see that the shopping mall is already opened but im not sure about the other things in there, cos its huge, but still lots of spaces unocuppied , but i go to itc and dunia fantasi (a theme park near it) quite often, so i just kinda passed it, i dont know whats in there, maybe ill try to go there when its opened and see if that is THE mangga dua square
Man, just thinking about Jakarta makes me *cringe*. Especially the thought of the infamous traffic jam in Jakarta. And now they want to take 3km of Jl. Sudirman for playing surface...whoa, it makes me even *cringe* more.... But then, i'm sure the people living in and around the area are accustomed to the heavy and congested road...The event will also be held on a Monday(July 11).. Now, I wonder why they chose Jl. Sudirman over all other road??..Why not near Monas(National Monument around Merdeka St.) as it is the central downtown and they have a park...
