Princess to play in Vietnam Published on May 17, 2005

    The Nation

[BADMINTON] Her Serene Highness Princess Siriwanwaree Mahidol will lead the Thai assault in the US$7,000 (Bt279,000) Asian Satellite Vietnam International Badminton Championships in Ho Chi Minh City from May 18-22.

The 21-member squad left for Vietnam last night, but the Princess is due to leave tomorrow night.

High-ranking officials from the Badminton Association of Vietnam, the Ho Chi Minh Sports Office and Professor Charoen Wattanasin, president of Badminton Association of Thailand, will welcome her when she arrives in Ho Chi Minh City.

It will be the first time the Princess has played with the national team and she will partner Tessana Phanvissawat in the mixed doubles. Tessana teamed up with veteran Pramote Theerawiwat to win the men’s doubles gold at the 1999 SEA Games in Brunei.

The Princess and Tessana will play a Malaysian pair in the opener on Thursday. A win will give the Thai pair a chance to take on the Singaporean third-seeds in the last 16.

Heard that the Brunei prince (or king?) is also a badminton enthusiast and plays at the Grand Hyatt Singapore. Believe he invite some top players in Singapore for sparring sessions there. :)

Exactly, I saw many Santoso's games and noticed that, he is really a "tiger":strong, resistant, rapid and strategical. Many VNmese fans love him! They called out his name " SO, SO" when he was playing; he waved his arm, but not smiled;)
