National Stadium in Thailand

Shops around National Stadium don't take credit cards. Yonex shops (e.g. in WTC) take credit card, but they are a bit more expensive (10-15 %). It is very easy to get to the National Stadium - just take the Bangkok Transit Skytrain and jump off at the last stop (called National Stadium ). There's shopping centre MBK and Jim Thompson's house right next to it, and WTC (which is in the centremost point of Bangkok and, if I recall correctly, this area is called Siam Square) is only about 1/2 mile away. But a taxi driver should know National Stadium too.

 

So did you find the place Javalina? Care to exchange the prices with us? Especially what were the prices for AT800OFF & NS8000? Thanks!

 

Finally found this thread, been searching for it for a while, remembered reading it a whiel ago, but never though I'd actually be going to Thailand.

So, this summer I'm going to Bangkok, for a cousins wedding. I'll be in Bangkok for four days and apparently we (me+family) are staying in Nova Hotel. Normally I would buy my rackets from Malaysia (where I come from) but from what I understand rackets are cheaper in Thailand. So can anybody point me to largish Yonex Stores around "Nova Hotel"? Or/And indicate the price of a yonex armotec 700 in bangkok? Any help would be tremendously appreciated. Ty in advance,

Are you sure the place is called "Nova hotel"? At least Google doesn't find a hotel with that name in Bangkok... perhaps it is Novotel? There's two Novotel hotels in Bangkok, but both are quite close to the city centre. Safest bet is to take a taxi to the World Trade Center and go to Yonex shop there - it is a bit more expensive (10 %?) than shops near National Stadium, but at least it is easy to find & you're quaranteed to get the genuine stuff. I'd say you shouldn't have to pay more than 3500 Baht (about 47 £, including strings & job) for AT700, but probably you can get it with even less.

 

Lol, after checking with my parents it turns out that the hotel that we are staying in is Novotel, good guess JMV.

The price sounds great, looks like thats the racket I'm going to be going for. Thanks a lot!

 

First Sports

I read on BC that First Sports (near National Stadium) sells authentic Yonex rackets. Do you have any experience/concerns with this shop?

I actually haven't been to Thailand for some time now. Back then (I think it was Spring 2003) I did all my purchases from WTC Yonex shop. Three good things with that shop: 1. they speak fairly good English, 2. they had pretty good selection and 3. it is very centrally located and easy to find. According to local people (such as Weeradej) shops near the National Stadium such as First Sports are some 10 % cheaper than WTC Yonex shop. They should also sell authentic stuff, but I haven't been there so can't help on that. I figured the AT700 price out from the comments in this forum - I haven't seen anybody commenting on the AT300 price though. Prolly way less than 3000 Baht?

Reason why I'm interested too is that I'm going there myself in August. I'm more after AT800OF and NS8000 (maybe AT500), and would appreciate if you guys could check those prices while there. Thanks & have a nice vacation!

BTW if I remember correctly Yonex shops have some sort of membership-thing, which means that if you pay some small amount of money (100 Baht?) you get good discount on certain purchases. I'd ask about it before I buy anything there.

 

Yea, I think that I'm definetly going to be buying from a yonex shop, wouldn't want to find out when I get back to the U.K. that I bought a fake racket. 3000 baht for a armotec 300 sounds great, any price around that would be good.

I'll be sure to check the prices in Thailand and pass them on, I should be back on the 8th of August. When do you leave for holiday JMV? Oo, and how comes you visit Thailand reguarly?

I'll be there later in the August. Second time in two years is hardly regularly ... This is actually my third trip to Thailand, and unfortunately probably the last for some time. Me & my girlfriend (soon to be wife) just liked the place very much: nice weather (though a bit rainy during summer), very good food, very nice people. All in all a very good vacation place!

Thanks for the e-mail address Paul, but I think I'll take it easy while in Bangkok. I need some 2 weeks off from badminton, because I've simply played it too much lately...
