TheStar PETALING JAYA: Former Malaysian chief coach Indra Gunawan has come to the rescue of national discard Sairul Amar Ayob’s badminton career. The Indonesian is currently in Malaysia giving personal coaching to Sairul in his preparation for the Singapore Open (June 27-July 3) and Malaysian Open (July 5-10). The 25-year-old Sairul, who was dropped from the national team two years ago, is currently ranked 13th in the world. Despite training on his own, Sairul has reached the last eight of this year’s South Korean and Swiss Opens. Indra said he still had faith on Sairul. “He has been without a coach and wanted my help. “I have decided to come over for a short stint. I plan to bring in Indonesia's Rony (Agustinus) to spar with Sairul,” said Indra.
I never knew it was Indra Gunawan training Sairul until a few days ago. Lol! He trains Sairul with Mr. Ong's trainee, Malaysia's current #1 women singles player Suteash. They train in the same hall I train in, so I see them training everytime I train. Unless they are away at tournaments, of course. Okay.. so I was blur.. I didn't know he was Indra Gunawan until my friend said so..
I don't know, sometimes he brings some other players to spar with his trainee. And.. I don't really know how the players look like as I don't keep up with the professional players. Otherwise I would have realised that it was Indra Gunawan months ago, and not a few days back! Lol.
Well, a new fellow just joined them.. I don't know if it's him or not. The hairstyle seems somewhat similar though. I'm no good at recognising faces
