It is not Tan Joe Hok, but the badminton maestro, the living legend Rudy Hartono to replace Icuk Sugiarto.

Last Saturday, PBSI has decided in its meeting to point Rudy Hartono as a Director of Department Development and Performance (DDP). And also pointed Lius Pongoh to lead the National Training Centre (Pelatnas).

In organization chart, National Training Centre is under DDP department.
In Icuk era, Director of DDP and chief of the Pelatnas were the same persone.
Now, Pelatnas has its own chief, Lius who has to report to Rudy.

As we know, Rudy has been in this function a couple years ago without success.
Things are changed now. Will see what Rudy can bring up.

Rudy ready to stress discipline

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

Badminton legend Rudy Hartono is promising change, including an emphasis on discipline and a clearer reward and punishment system for players, as he takes over as head of development affairs for the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI).

"With an extra approach and some coaxing, Rudy Hartono finally agreed to fill the vacant post of head of development affairs," PBSI's chief of foreign affairs G. Sulistiyanto was quoted by Antara as saying on Saturday.

Sulistiyanto was speaking after a PBSI executive board meeting at the national training center in Cipayung, East Jakarta.

Rudy replaces Icuk Sugiarto, who resigned in mid-April following a series of disputes with executive board officials ahead of the Sudirman Cup mixed team championship last month.

In the six weeks since Icuk's departure, the names of Rudy, Tan Joe Hok and Christian Hadinata have emerged as possible replacements.

The three men, all former players, reportedly refused the initial offer to replace Icuk, but PBSI continued to make overtures.

Rudy, who was the head of PBSI organizational and regional development, stated three conditions for taking the job, Sulistiyanto said.

The requests were for a special assistant to handle national training; full authority to maintain the discipline of athletes without intervention from others, including the PBSI chairman, and the authority to implement a reward and punishment system for the players.

"On Friday (June 3), Rudy finally agreed to assume responsibility as head of development affairs because his three requests were fulfilled by PBSI chairman Sutiyoso," Sulistiyanto said.

Rudy said that he would talk with coaches and players to make changes to the national training system.

"Practice sessions must be harder than competition because achievement could only be reached through hard training," he said.

On Saturday, PBSI installed Lius Pongoh as head of the national training to accommodate Rudy's request and Retno Kustiyah as the daily head of organizational and regional development.

After reading the report, it looks like the "Man in Charge" in PBSI is no longer Sutiyoso, but Rudy....Sutiyoso is just there as a "figurehead", whilst Rudy will be basically making and calling all the shots.....Hmm, i wonder why he couldn't do that earlier...
Hope this time around, his stay is longer than before..

I sense possible trouble for Taufit. Rudy insisting and getting absolute power, his emphasis on discipline, these are real power tools.

I think this is what Taufik is "lacking":discipline. It's unfortunate, but IMO, a person like Rudy is what PBSI needed, a respectable person with a no-nonsense type of attitude. Sure some will not like the way Rudy will run the show, but it seemed like Rudy knows and wanted the things which Icuk can't push himself for. Yes, in a sense Rudy is almost like Icuk, and Taufik could have an "uneasy" zone in PBSI. I just wonder, what will happen to Taufik, if a similar incident happen again, like between him and Icuk. Will Rudy allow that??...

We shall see in the next few months, starting with the upcoming Singapore and Malaysian Opens and the World Championship. In one Indonesian newspaper, Rudy already put out his "new given power". He gave a "warning" to all the players(as well as coaches) who are going to the S'pore Open, that he expects them to at least reach the Quarterfinal. If anyone of them should fail in the *early rounds*, he will ask those players to come back home and not even try to compete in the upcoming Malaysian Open. The reason is, the players being sent there should not lose and have no excuse of having less stamina because the opponents basically are the same level as them. If they should fail in the early rounds, then they have to go back and train harder. He also added that, bonus money will be given to those players who wins their respected flights. And those players who are showing improvement and good result, will have more chance to play in more tournaments.
Wow, quite a stern warning from the new head honcho..

Anyway, one good thing(for us badminton fans) out of this is, if Rudy can stand the new position, we can see/meet him in the upcoming WC..:).

Well.. I like this the most....
It could become a quote for other sports as well...
Just like Michael Jordan's " I can stand failure, but I can't stand not trying"
