    hi every1,

i recently moved to west covina (close to Rowland Height) area, and i found East LA College and Claremont Colleges are pretty close to me. any1 played in these places before? can any1 give me more information, like the light, floor, players and fees?

seems like Mar Vista is a good place to go, but it's too far for me about 40 miles. any1 know any other good places to go in the East LA area besides the two colleges i just mentioned above?

i used to play in San Diego twice a week. i think i am a pretty good c level (or maybe b level) player. i haven't played at all since i moved here. i am getting rusted :(

    Hi there:

San Gabriel Valley Badminton Club is actually a good place to play (also very close to you) if you don't mind paying a hefty amount of entry fee (7 dollars i think?) everytime. They offer monthly membership if you plan to visit more than a few times in a month to break even. You can take either the 60 West or 10 West. Check out the sticky for exact details..

Warning: People there are cliquey, as anothe post has mentioned.

Place To Play At East L.a.

ELAC college opens on fri 6pm-10pm, sat 6pm-10pm, and sun 8am-noon at women's gym. thurs will be opening soon in the summer i think from 6pm-10pm at the men's gym. it costs $3 dollars. lightings are too bright. fan is too strong to couple of the courts. good players are in court one.

fyi: it's free to play at the rosemead club early in the morning before the store opens. usually, store opens on weekdays around 2pm or 3pm where you have to pay to play.

Well yes, but not compared to San Diegan where they get to play for free in all of the public gyms in the city. There are about 7 or 8 gyms total with the Balboa Park Activity Center being the biggest and best one. This is one of th reason I miss San Diego very much :crying: .

Lazybuddy indicated that drop-in fees in New York are in the USD 20 price range. You're playing 1/3 of that :D

I'll be in the area on saturday.
    How's the player's level at the gym? A, B, C levels?
Is there alot of players and long waiting times?

I'll see you at the gym. I'll be wearing a Yonex jacket with a USA flag and USA on the back.

    Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Paul: The Walnut Gym is a nice place. Ying coaches there most of the time on Saturdays. The wait is not long. :)

Not sure what Ying's last name is but she's tall and easy on the eyes. :D  :) Oh, and she's a good player too. Plays the pot on occasion.

I'll be at SGVBC on Saturday...on second thought, maybe I should go to Walnut and dink, Doctors orders, I still need to take it easy on my repaired shoulder. :) Thinking...

    Paul,
the Walnut Teen Center gym has all kinds of levels(the most i think is B. Depends who comes and play though). I heard there are more "better" players on Tuesday evening instead(from 7 pm til 10 or 11 pm). I play there once in a while. Yes it costs $1 to play(yep, it's a good deal). It's also open 3 or 4 times a week(even during weekdays).
The waiting is not long, well depends. But recently when i played there, there's a sign up sheet tied to the net post. Thus you have to sign up to play. They used to not have it, but i guess since the queue is sometimes out of control and people are playing over & over again, they've decided to put a sign-up sheet.
It's best to bring a friend, but if not, there'll be others who will play with you.
On Saturday, it's open from 3 pm til 10 pm at night..There's air condition also..Nice place to play, so come and visit...:)
Oh, BTW, yah i saw the tall gal which Dan is describing, coaching there as well..

    Many thanks!

I should thank you guys who could bear someone like me who has not played in several years and does not know any regulations. I am gonna practice more so some day we can play a real game -- maybe next year I can get better? :D
