Rurouni Kenshin definitely, the Tokyo and Kyoto Arc. Noboru Watsuki really is a master of weaving fiction and history. If you really go and read about the Shinsengumi and the Great Hitokiri of the Meiji Restoration, you will find that just about all tallies! My all time favourite.

Out of all the animes I've watched, Naruto is perhaps the most "comprehensive" and well developed one. When I was a lot younger, I used to watch Dragonball, but ever since Goku grew up and all the battles started being less funny and more "holy crap, he's got a power level of 1000000000!!" it started getting a bit redundant. What I like about naruto is that though they get stronger, they also develop some pretty original techniques, and the animation quality is superb. I'm a sucker for martial arts animes though. Fend, I used to watch Ranma 1/2 religiously, in fact, I owned the entire video series including the OVAs. For those who don't know it, it's a classic-- it's about this boy training to be the world's martial artist with his good-for-nothing father. Both of them, while training in the Cursed Springs area of China, get cursed-- so Ranma (the hero) now turns into a girl whenever splashed by cold water and his dad turns into a panda whenever splashed by cold water. It makes for a lot of interesting possibilities, since Ranma's dad has also arranged at least 3 fiances for his son (mostly to get out of debt). That, and since ranma's so popular, he's also constantly being challenged by other martial artists, some of whom have also been cursed (with cold water, one of them turns into a pig, another a goose, a cat, a minotaur, etc.)
ah anime on astro! yes i enjoyed most of them. didnt like ranma........ coz of the lack of closure..... addictive tho slamdunk is great..... but i havent seen the ending (final national tournaments -> not showed for some reason) cooking master boy ---> very educational. nice gensomaden saiyuki ---> all style very little substance. the animation art could have been better or produced smoother i think u forgot sakura wars!!!!!!!!!!!! some of the best character development and story lines i've ever seen in an anime series. rurouni kenshin was awesome......... up to the end of the shisio makoto it got abit boring after that. cheers 8man
which rurouni kenshin character are you??? wow! i just found this cool 'personality test'! check it out! http://www.geocities.com/padfootmk/rkquiz.html let us know your test result. ok i'll kick start this ---------> it says im ANJI the demented monk!!!!!!!!!!!! watch out! hmmmmmm cheers 8man

The reason why I like RK so much is because how down to earth it is that I could relate to. It's easy to create a whole universe of battle ships, super powered heroes or well endowed women that makes Pamela Anderson jealous, but what RK did was to take real history by itself, weave his own version of it into the real thing and the end product is something that is not only believable but makes sense. It's as if watching a history lesson on a more exciting manner. Of course, the things such as the Ama Kakeru Ryu no Hirameki is absolute fiction, but the stance of battoujutsu (quick draw) is nothing new in swordsfighting. The character Kenshin Himura was based on Gensai Kawakami who practices battoujutsu in real life during the Bakumatsu. All the villains are also believable people; Shishio was betrayed by the very people he served for and wanted revenge - he is flawed too; consumed by the hatred and lust for power. Certain characters such as Toshimichi Okubo, the Minister of State (I think) had some hidden dirty secret of the past that needs erasure but he had to petition for the old fashioned way that could mean murder by modern law. Is it legal? Far from it, but the complications of not acting is far reaching. Kaoru Kamiya had to deal with losing Kenshin to Battousai, one of the truest friend (and secret love) she had ever had in her life, while at the same thing remain strong in knowing that one day he may never come home because of his storied past. Man, I'm going to get back my CDs and rewatch from the beginning! PS - I think Episode 30 battle between Kenshin and Saito is one of the best in the entire series; Saito at his best and Kenshin at Hitokiri mode, no holding back, full powered fight to the death.
