Malaysia To Meet Denmark In Friendly Match 16/06/05, 12:52:32 ALOR STAR, June 15 (Bernama) -- National number one Lee Chong Wei will lead the Malaysian team to face European champions Denmark in a friendly match at the Sultan Abdul Halim Stadium here on June 24. Malaysia will field a full-strength team with Chong Wei, ranked fourth in the world, Hafiz Hashim, Wong Choong Hann and Kuan Beng Hong in singles while the doubles pairs are Chan Chong Ming-Koo Kien Keat, Zakry Latif-Gan Teik Chai and Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah. Kedah Badminton Association president Dato' Lim Teong Kiat said Denmark will also bring their best line-up which includes their top two singles players Kenneth Jonassen and Peter Gade. "The friendly match, sponsored by Beras Jati, will start at 4pm and offer a total prize money of US10,000 (RM38,000). The tickets are priced at RM15 each," he told reporters at the Kedah Darul Aman Club Wednesday. The tickets will be on sale at the Alor Star Recreation Centre hall, Syarikat Peng Hap, Teow Thye Guan Trading and Central Kedah Sports Equipment in Sungai Petani or at the stadium and from the organisers at 012-4837959. The match will offer an opportunity for Chong Wei and Hafiz, now ranked sixth, to avenge their recent defeats to Jonassen. Jonassen, the world number two, defeated Hafiz in the third round of the Japan Open in April and then went on to beat Chong Wei in the quarterfinal. Lim said the match was the third international friendly involving Malaysia being held in the state. Earlier, Malaysia had played South Korea and China here. "We expect a good crowd for this world class friendly match and the 2,000 printed tickets are likely to be sold out," he added.
