Backhand reverse slice drop shot

    I read this in a book the other day. After having read the explanation, I can visualise the shot. It's magnificent.

    You feign a backhand cross-court drop shot, but alter the racket head so that the angle of the hitting face actually faces away from the court - hence the reverse slice. I'd say to pull this off once would be one of the most deceptive things anyone can do.

    I'm giving it a go in doubles, but I think my opposition has cottoned on to it now, which irritates me. It has destroyed the moment, if ever it comes. Has anyone seen this shot...ever?

    This sounds like pure genius. It had never occured to me before - a kind of reverse backhand slice.

    cool shot indeed but I recon top players are too good to get themselves in a backhand situation where they have the possibility, and time, to pull one off.

    L.D. did it a couple of times during a warm-up in some video I have somewhere... can't say I have seen it in a match yet

    This is definately a fun shot to do, but not ideal in a game. Usually, to pull off this shot, you have to be already slightly faceing the net in which case you could go for the easier and more effective round the head shot. However, it's a great shot to do against buddies in fun games or warm up ;)

    Whoah, why didn't I think of that? The idea's really simple; but when I visualize it, it looks so deceptive. I'm going to try it tomorrow then.

    Brilliant!!!

    And the same concept can be applied for forehand (ie, fake a cross court drop, slice it to make a straight sliced drop). It looks like it will work better for single games. To maintain the deception factor, it goes without saying that this will have to be mixed with real cross court drops at random.

    I think it was in Dongguan 2011 in an exhibition match against LCW.
    Lee Chong Wei used it in two real matches I've seen so far, Korea Open 2013 and Malaysia Open 2013 (both times vs. Hu Yun).
    Personally, I find LCW's reverse slices are the best around. :D
