They exist

... A friend of mine frequents Sunset Community Centre on Monday nights, and I met a couple of other Filipinos there too. Met another couple Filipinos at Kerrisdale Community Centre as well, but I don't think they're regulars there.

Most Filipinos I know actually play basketball, and they're REALLY, REALLY good at that sport. I marvel at playgrounds seeing 6-footers Caucasians, then seeing these short Filipino dynamites on the basketball court. You'd think they'd be hanging around the perimeter and shooting from the outside (which they can do) but the Filipinos actually drive INTO the basket with no fear. Old, or young, these guys look like they have in-built basketball talent.

I think the equivalent to badminton are some Indonesian players I saw once or twice at Renfrew.

I haven't met a competition, or advanced-level Filipino badminton-player yet, though.

I'm from North York, GTA and I'm Pinoy. Where do you play? I have not played badminton since I moved to Canada last February 2006 and I've been itching to play again.

For Toronto, check out the badminton ontario website (can't remember the URL off the top of my head but www.badminton.ca has the link).

Hi bentot,

I'm with a group of around a dozen pinoys that regularly play badminton. We usually play about twice a week at ClearTwo, Killarney, Trout Lake or Queen's Park. Most of us are beginners, but there a few of us that have been playing 2-3 years back in the Phils.

Send me PM if you're interested in joining us, or drop in at Trout Lake Community Center the next 5 Friday evenings arount 7PM.

Our Pinoy group now also plays every Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM at RichmondPro. There were 18 of us playing there last week.
