Even at this time the next host for Olympic 2012 has not yet been determined. But the cities which were eliminated, in order of time, so far include: Moscow New York (sorry LB and all BF'ers from US) :crying: and Madrid. Now the vital decision is who will win: Paris or London???
tight race between London and Paris. i think this was kinda expected from the polls that were done prior. do you know when they are voting on the events?
Its nice to have PARIS hosting the event. But personally i would prefer London to host it. At least most people can speak English. And i can go back to London as well.
London Won Congratulations to all my UK BF'ers! London has won!!!!!!! But Paris certainly gave London a very, very close fight and is as good as any city to be a worthy host.
Didn't pay particular attention on this one but I am confident that Badminton will remain since it has won better viewership and is played in many more countries. Current plans to extend the game to many more regions with the installation of the training centres, to make the game more attractive to the young, etc, should help to put badminton on a firmer footing! Tony Blair's short but critical visit here and the legendary middle distance runner Sebastian Coe's personal and emotional story perhaps tilt the difference in London's favour.
Quite a surprising result really, i felt Paris were the favourites all the way, right until the past week.
London beat Paris by only 4 votes: 54 against 50. I think maybe the UK has more friends, having founded the Commonwealth of Nations. And of course, English is more popular than French. Having been to both London and Paris, I have to agree that it is so much more easier to travel in London, which is also more cosmopolitan. Being more cosmopolitan has certain advantages as more people can feel more comfortable when they see people of their own kind mix freely with many others. By 2012, I'm sure London will be transformed in some ways. For one, the tubes will be more modern.
I do agree.. but some parts of the tube tunnel can't be changed.. too old. They may have to make more new tunnels. Now will just have to see how they are going to implement their infrastucture for the Games.
IBF welcomes London decision as "best for Badminton" http://www.worldbadminton.net/Portal/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabid=10&ItemID=1822&cnt=1&action=1024x768
Here's my take, i think the decision came down to economic factors = MONEY and which country is the "most ready"... With the Olympics being held in London, the currency that comes into play is the Pound Sterling, which is basically the "highest" currency value in the world...And unless the sterling take a sudden dip in value in the next 7 yrs. or so, i think the decision made sense.. Other factors could be: 1. the O.C.(olympic committe) wanted to somehow rotate the location.(ie. 1996 Atlanta(U.S.), 2000 Sydney(Australia), 2004 Greece(Europe), 2008 Beijing(Asia), 2012 London(Europe), 2016???(could be Americas, Africa, Asia, Australia) 2. language factor.. 3. investment opportunity??... So for those investors, start investing in London/England..
So happy that London won the Bid coz it's good for Badminton as IBF have pointed out. But i feel very very sad for Paris coz all the hardwork and dedication is in vain.If i was in Paris i would feel like crying right now after reading all the press reviews:crying: :crying: Feel sorry for the Paris/France B'fers, but life goes on....
1. Like it's always been, just like world cup football/ "soccer " 2. So why China? 3. Highest currency value -> only way to go is down and it's more expensive to invest in places with a high currency; see dollar vs euro brrrr *uch*ibesss see bulgarian ioc member
