why the best shuttles are made up of the feathers from the left wing of the goose. i got the answer from this website. http://www.05worlds.com/quizresults.asp can someone please explain the difference bt. Left and Right wing of the goose
I recon that since the feathers on the left 'n right aren't exactly the same, and since you want to achieve a certain spin of the shuttle, youre stuck with only the left wing ones... seems to be plenty of geese though If you know someone who is actually into flyfishing he/she might show you a feather so you can see
left wing goose feathers Hi, U dont have be a goose expert, what about a duck specialist? Ha,ha.........Beijing duck.........? Hey, just a joke,ok! No offence. North Eastern part of China produces good goose feathers shuttlecocks. Maybe email them to find more detailed information about left wing feathers are better than right wing one?
now, you might know what you're talking about, or you might just be piecing together fancy words that seem to be able to go together without any syntax error lol... Want to explain what you mean and enlighten us?
look at all the badminton greats, mostly lefties: zhao jinhua, wu wenkai, lin dan, bao lai, yang yang, paul larson, etc
Check out this: http://lincolnjournalstar.com/articles/2005/07/17/sports/doc42d9df8447731318804546.txt In short: only left wing feathers have proper spin And more info here: http://www.cco.caltech.edu/~cbclub/tournament97/rules.html In short: both wing feathers are used, but not mixed I believe into the fact that feathers can't be mixed (from left & right wing) - but find it hard to believe that only left wing is used. Go figure...
wow, check out the second article! Therefore, three geese can produce two shuttlecock. How many goose has been killed under my racket
Would you rather their feathers harvested while they're still alive? Feathers are byproducts of any poultry farms. Another example, I believe traditionally chicken feathers are used to make dusters. (I wonder what ostrich feathers are used for?) But, I think the OP's question's been answered: the left wing because its feathers give the most desirable spin and flight. Doesn't mean the right wing feathers aren't used. They're probably make up those club-grade and training-grade shuttles.
I have just checked with a former employee (qc on Yonex and Gosen shuttles used in tournaments) of the world's biggest shuttles manufacturer, DHS Shuttles Manufacturing Co., about shuttles. The thing about using only the left wing goose feathers for top grade shuttles is all nonsense, according to him. The best shuttles are made from goose feathers that come from the North East in China, and it takes 3 geese to make one top grade shuttle. If your shuttle feathers are made from 2 geese to 1 shuttle, then it is not top grade. Feathers form the left and right wings cannot be mixed. However, all left feathers are as good as all right feathers in a top grade shuttle. Yonex has 8 contract shuttle manufacturers in China. If you are an expert, you should be able to tell by looking at a Yonex shuttle the history of the shuttle: which contract manufacturer, location, year and month of the feathers, origin of the feathers etc. If you want to test this out, and if you live in Hong Kong, just bring along a Yonex shuttle (preferably tournament grade) and I will have it analysed for you, if you pm me. Sounds incredible?
why not using another kind of bird, there probally at least an other species who can produce adequate feather. I propose using seagull There a lots of them in my country and they are easy to feed i/e A macdonald trash can.
Good idea but I don't believe seagull feathers have the right/ideal feather composition. Hopefully a BC ornithologist can confirm this.
