When I was playing with these two people, they had these tape on their strings. It was slightly lower part of the racquet's midpoint. I'm positive that isn't lead tape. It transparent in fact. It looks like those office tapes. Would anyone know why'd they put that there?

It's a bad habit people do here to make their shots sound louder!

It makes the point of impact sound like a piece of wood hitting the shuttlecock though. It's quite annoying!

Yes, I guess most of the people who do this are fromt the Philippines.
Is that really the reason why they do that? I don't really know since I haven't tried it yet.

I read that thread earlier and I'm quite interested on how to do this:

but if you wanna get a big Bad raWWWW from your racquet just put a scotch tape about 1 inch in the two main, in both side so they hold each other. Now your racquer make twice the sound it maked

But I am unsure if I tape it around the two strings or do each string individually.

... Did that make any sense at all?

Yes, that did. I'll try that sometime, right after I'm done experimenting with shuttles and toothpicks.:D

Just take 1 inch of scotch tape and tape wherever you want.... If the sound doesn't come out correctly, you can just take it off and tape it somewhere else. It's tape, nothing happens to the string when you make a mistake in placing it ;)

lol I've tried it once. Dunno if I did it correctly or not but it sounded like what you'll expect from adding tape to strings

Did your taping produce that RAWWW sound? If you did, can you show a pic on where you taped it? I don't wanna spend all day placing tape on various spots :D

i tried that before hum it doesnt sound to bad i liked the sound when i played in cities sounded good anyways i had it near the bottom of the racquet find the center strings the square line from top to bottom i say count 3 from the bottom and then cut a piece of tape thats five squares across(2 on each side of the center) and then place it on and then flip over and repet on the other side and press the 2 pieces together and it sounds good. you can also try it with other kinds of tape for different sounds.

I remember there was another post about taping it on the main strings near the tjoints... So I tried that and it's just plain tape sound lol... The sound IS louder, but it's sound you'll get from taping. Thje tape doesn't magically give you shotgun sounds heh

i came with that idea cause i was triing some dampener for tennis racquet, But the effect was the opposite than a rubberband cauz the tape is stiff enough to transmit the vibration to the other string so this exagerate the sound (useless for tennis dampener) But this is cool for people eho want to sound like atomic bomb when doing drop shot :p

If you still havn't figured out how to do it. Take 2 piece of exactly 5cm of transparent scotch tape. Take a poser badminton racquet. Put the racquet in front of you and put a layer of tape on the 3-4 center main then tourn the racquet arount and put the second layer on the first so the stick together with the string between then. Congratilation you've got some decibel but no Mph

    just saw this thread...

to me the sound generated by a racket with tape is very very annoying. when I play someone who does use one, I try to get him to remove the tape :)

isn't putting the this tape on the string bed illegal based on the laws of badminton?

    fanatico:
lead tape on the other hand is supposed to be spun on the head of tennis rackets to make it more head heavy. some players do this on badminton rackets. this is not a wise thing to do because the extra weight of the lead tape on the racket head will put undue stress on the shaft and frame making the frame very very susceptible to cracking.
