Hi all, Ever since I started playing badminton, I've bought 3 expensive brand new rackets, and now none of them are scratch or dent free. The saddest thing is that 9 out of 10 of the scratches and dents came from my sheer stupidity off-court. You see, I have this annoying habit of practising shots in my office, my bedroom and my shower-room, all of which are kind of full of tables and shelves and have low ceilings. Anyway, I had a dream last night in which I was playing a game with my favourite Nanopower 7000 racket, and I broke the string. Of course, like everyone else, I don't pay any attention to my dreams, and nothing happened during my badminton session tonight -- execpt that I lost all the games I played . So, I got home, feeling pissed off, and decided to practise my smash in front of the mirror -- the next thing I know, I hit a light bulb on the ceiling so hard with my NP 7000 that not only I broke the bulb (which stopped working about 3 years ago anyway), I actually broke the string of the racket and added about 20 new scratches and dents to my most beloved racket. ARHHHHHHHH :crying: Anyway, I guess I've finally leart my lesson. NP
I hope you didn't hurt yourself when the bulb broke. Yeah, I personally should stop swinging my racquet around the house or fooling around with it. I've already made some scratches on the wall and one time, I had my friend's racquet in one hand and mine in the other of which I swung and chipped my racquet :crying:
Sign of a true fanatic: practice swing in the bedroom... Sign of a true obsessive fanatic: practice swing in the shower room... Sign of a true super obsessive fanatic: practice swinging strokes while he's in the can . Sign of a truly silly obsessive fanatic: practice swing in non-sport environment with his favorite racquet. Newplayer, that's what backups and beaters are for....
haha i remember i did this as well when i fisrt got my at700. i was like whoa. swing, bam hti the ceiling and there was one big chip. pretty soon the racquet had a bunch of chips and i think all these hitting the wall make the frame weak. well anyways, it broke in a game when my partner clashed straighton to the center of the head and make a sick crack.
There is a big mirror in the shower room. I would like to see if I'm swinging the racket in the right way. NP
Are you saying that I should buy a new racket just in case my NP 7000 breaks? Maybe this is the excuse I've been waiting for ..... NP
sorry that u broke your strings and your lightbulb!! just last night, i was practicing my backhand with a thin carboard bag over it (i thick rubber band-ed it)... after a long while... i took it off and swung it... got so excited cause it felt so light! but as careful as i am... i adjusted myself correctly in my room so i dont hit anything. BUT it was so excited i switched hands... and whacked it REALLY hard at my window... it was like 0130 ish. didnt break anything. though i think it's a good thing i read this thread today..... wont do that tonight anymore........( unless i REALLY REALLY cant sleep )
damn NP.. sorry to hear that.. . When you practice your smash infront of the mirror.. do you do a proper smash? As in.. proper swing speed etc? Do you jump?
Let's see how much damage I've done to my rackets in my shower room. A few months ago, when I just got my Apacs Armor Power 700, I was practising wrist kills in front of the mirror in the shower room, I got a bit careless and hit the washing table with the brand new racket, thereby adding several large dents to the racket -- the table was fine. That was when I decided that I needed another "perfect" racket. A few weeks ago, I was practising "proper smash" in the shower room, I knew I couldn't do a proper smash standing, so I did all my practice kneeling down, after a while I got too careless and hit the shower screen with my NP 700, luckily nothing was broken. Last night, I finally broke something on top of my racket when I was just practising the final bit of wrist action in a smash. Anyway, to answer your question, I can only practise very small movements in my shower room, and defintely not a full smash and I've never even thought about doing a jump smash in my shower room. [Dreaming] Um... maybe I should get that NP 808 now since my NP 7000 is so scratched and dented ... [/Dreaming] *Slap myself and wake up No I cannot get any other racket -- it will just end up being scratched and dented in the shower room again. NP
A good advice, newplayer, do things where they are appropriate, regardless of how you feel or what you think of it. The bathroom, enclosed spaces, rooms with hangings on ceilings is not a place to swing and practice with your racquet. All those costly losses can be avoided by thinking before you do something. Practicing a smash in the bathroom? Re-read that and you know it shouldn't have happened. Else, don't lament when you actually broke them due to your own actions.
Erm, I practice swinging in my bedroom and then I practice swinging in my washroom which happens to have a shower and a toilet before I take a shower. So that must been I'm Ultra super obsessive fanatic lol.
haha icic well i hope ur ok.. thats why i only practise net shots now over a made up net in my bedroom now.. cus i dented by CAB 21 by hitting the table.... :crying:
Most of the big white scratches on the top of my rackets are from practice swings in my basement with a low ceiling. But I can't help it, cuz the basement is where I watch the vids on my computer :crying: . There's an urge to swing and I can't fight it.
Haha, this always happens to me. I usually practice when I'm watching TV or just idling around the house. I had just got a new Armortec 500 the other week, and I accidentally extended my arm a little too far in my swing, causing my racket to hit the ceiling and showering bits of plaster all over me. Luckily, my racket wasn't damaged. But then a few days later, I did the exact same thing except it hit a light fixture. I hit it pretty hard, making a huge "CLANK" sound, and now there are two large paint chips and a small dent in it. I almost broke down and cried at my stupidity. Hopefully the frame itself isn't compromised and it won't make any difference on the court.
