I have been experiencing problems when i am breathing just through my nose as it is really stuffy. A specialist doctor said my bone was bent to one side so one nostril is stuffed more than normal. In addition....i am alergic to dust mites which adds on to problems when breathin with my nose..:crying: THe only solution to the bent bone in my nose is surgery...which is currently out of the question  Usually, to help my breathing i breath in salt water through my nose and spit it out throught my mouth(disgusting as it may sound it helps)
Anyone have any other tips for helping with a blocked nasal passage?!!

Eat spicy food morning, noon and night. You will soon have running nose and sneezes, which also unblock your nose. :D

Inhale vapors from Vicks Vaporub or Tiger Balm. It'll clear that right out :)

I do nasal rinse for stuffy nose. Using a "neti" pot (a modified teapot), I fill it with luke warm salt water, stuff the sprout into one of my nostril, tilt my head over and just pour the water into my nose. Water will flow out via the other nostril. I gently blow out the water and then repeat the process again for the other side. When I first started, I did it almost everyday for one month to get used to the process. And then do it only when I feel a cold coming on.

Also, doing Farmer Burns Stomach Flattener breathing exercise helps unplug my stuffy nose sometimes.

breathing in from the nose and spitting it out from the mouth...wow, how do you manage not to get salt water into your lungs? Thats unusual skill indeed. :D

But besides that, I also have the unheard-of skill of being able to breath heartily through my mouth, where it is improbable that any clogging shall occur. I often do that while playing badminton. ;)

Have you tried using those nasal strips? It might not help congestion, but it could help to open up the nasal passage past the broken nose bone.

During the winter months I also have a problem with congestion. I do find that using a non-drowsy decongestent helps me to clear the nasal passage. That is only if I remember to take it earlier in the day. I find the effects don't start taking effect for me until a few hours, so if I need it immediately in a game I have to still count on breathing through my mouth.

Avoid the surgery, I speak from experience. The surgery didnt make that much of difference. Had I known ahead of time the results, I wouldnt have done it. The best thing that works for me is the nasal strips.

But dont use them too often, you will really like how much they help and you'll be wearing them all the time.

Try some wasabi with food like hotdog. It could "blow" a passage for you. :D

Isn't it better to breath with your mouth in cardio intensive sports?

    Bronze Vs Plastic Neti Pot

Is bronze neti pot safer than plastic ones? I find the plastic goes soft when teh water is more than luke warm.

For you Pete, nothing but pure 20K gold will do!:D

For the particular problem originally posted, I would agree with the Netipot users. It's not as difficult as it sounds. And for those who fear aspiration, salty water is a lot less harmful to your lungs than apple cider.
