    For fun a friend and I bid and won 5 unstrung racquets on ebay;

    Yonex 23 VF
    Yonex MP 28 ***
    Yonex MP 23 ***
    Yonex B460
    Yonex B560

    We only paid £11 each and will randomly decide who gets which MP racquet, looking at a Yonext chart the MP28 is fairly generic and the MP23 slightly more suited to doubles (lighter?). We only intend to string 2 racquets of the 5.

    I would be very grateful if you guys can help me pick a "best of the bunch" and recomend string/tension. I've only brought factory tension before and I currently play with a Carlton Titanium Powershot raquet which is about 100g fairly stiff - factory strung.

    My power isn't huge. I can comfortably clear base to base f/h but my b/h is weak base to mid court so I normally drop when caught on my back hand.

    My friend is similar to me and has a wicked smash but again is lacking the strength on the back hand.

    Cheers!!

    After drawing lots I've got the MP28 and my friend the MP23. I'm still not sure about tension but may go for 22lb.

    Can anyone recomend a hard wearing string that keeps tension well that is good for control but also power :cool:

    PS should the MP racquets have a serial on them? The iso 23 does but the MP23/28 don't. Also the MP28 has some varnish peel :(

    Thanks for any reply!

    hmm...all genuine yonex rackets shld have a set of 7 digits serial numbers on the shaft....n den 6digits+2alphabets behind (date+distribution code) on the cones. if dun have...seems most likely its gonna be a fake. :(

    Doh - I didn't figure that low end yonex would be fakes :eek:

    Oh well - I guess atleast they are still one piece carbon and the frames seem to be the correct weight. Maybe I can take a piccie to confirm the MP23 as fake?

    Don't worry, there are no such thing as low end fakes. No one can make money off those. The racquets made before 2000 has a different set of serial numbers. Doesn't mean they're fake heh

    I contacted Yonex to ask about missing serials but they couldn't give a definitive answer without inspecting the racquets. The helpful guy offered to check them but I would need to pay a £6 courier charge.

    Nice support from Yonex - not many manufacturers would reply to my mail let alone have a website to look at.

    Thanks for the words of reassurance Neosakai :)

    I've read a few string reviews and I do want something fairly durable but I also want something interesting :cool: So My friend is most likely to have BG70PRO and I will go for BG88ti both strung at 23lb > 22lb.

    I don't think MP ever exist before 2000, especially the lower end (smaller than 55). :rolleyes:

    The yonex guy mailed me back to advise me not to use the racquets for fear of them breaking and hurting someone... :crying: - how to knock the wind out of my sails!

    The guy who has been emailing me is the Yonex UK Marketing Manager - I'm not sure why he couldnt say no serials = fake, it would save alot of unecessary postage cost!

    can you show pics of the shaft / cone / frame? Have you managed to borrow a 'real' MP23/28 and compared it side by side?

    Not yet - most of the players at my club use wilson, Browning and Carlton with a few other Yonex models.

    Here is my effort at taking pictures of the MP23;

    can you take a pic of the 23's serial? I have a 23 and the shape of the head doesn't seem right.

    There weren't any serials on either MP23 or MP 28. I think the first picture is misleading - makes the racquet appear squashed.

    Shame you brought an MP88 Togey - you could have brought a "cough" MP23 "cough" from me.
