I want to improve my foot work. I have read some things on it, but is there any exercise or drills to work my foot work better?
sorry, i'm not good on it. may be u can just search on the existing threads. i'm sure u will find something .
Hello DudeinBlue. There's a forum on video sharing here. Here's the link to download of a video on footwork drills. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=226EWPNL It's actually quite intriguing to watch. Approximately 39mb so it may take a while if you're using dial-up. Hope this helps. You'll be a better man on the court when you're done watching it. Off the court, well, it really doesn't help though. Hehe. Enjoy!
Hello Carbonex_21! I'm sorry but I don't really collect videos... Not yet. I was actually looking for a video of that too but I don't think there are any of those yet. The next best thing I can recommend is for you to find videos of Hafiz Hashim. He uses those shots extensively. I'm sure you'll learn a lot from his videos. Oh, Taufik Hidayat does those too but not as much and as effective as Hafiz. good luck!
If you don't mind me giving you a few hints, during warm-up, try it with your friend. Have him give you drops and pause then flick. It's not easy at first but after a couple of tries, you'll get it. You'll even get to fake your smashes then suddenly rotate your racquet to return with a clear instead. But start with pause then flick first, k? But if you can go to Hafiz' house, well, that would be really cool! Hehe.
well if you watched that video then thats a good start, i say do some shadowing. when i go to play at one gym i usually get there before the rest of my friends and its usually empty there so that allows me to practice with nobody ealse watching well i get to watch myself in the wall mirror behind the court. thats how i started to work on my jump smash and my smash and all other shots just doing that, now when i go i mostly do footwork and thats all i will do just make sure im moving around the court right with racquet in hand actually going and doing shots well with out the shuttle. I find that it works cause i have noticed an imporvement in my footwork its not the best yet but im working on it.
I found this website about footwork: http://www.worldbadminton.com/drills/instructional_multimedia_lowres.htm#Footwork Don't know if it's helpful, but I hope it is
thanks.in addition, i think i should see more videos and watch closely how they play, and practise more often.
Thank you guys. I am downloading it right now. And takes for the incredible photo website that illusrates almost everything. I herd of Shadow Drills and not sure how it works. Is it when you clear it then run up to the front then flick it then run back to clear it again?
Good footwork is the same in almost every sport, be it badminton or soccer. The fundamentals of good footwork are based on these 3 pillars-stay on the balls or toes of your feet at all times, your feet must be sprung at all times (just like having springs on your feet), and maintaining your balance when returning the shot. Fancy footwork alone is useless when your legs have no springs. Having springs alone, without regaining or maintaining your balance when lunging for a tight return, will see you fall flat on the floor. To use the springs in your feet properly, you must first move in the opposite direction before proceeding in the direction you want to move to go. Just watch how a 100 metres sprinter shoot out of his starting block. Do you know why there are two starting blocks for the sprinter's two feet? Yes, he pushes backwards to catapult himself foreward.
Adding to Taneepak's point about having legs like "springs".... Even if your footwork skills are excellent, you won't be able to move quickly unless your legs are strong. Strong legs are the foundation of fast footwork. I cycled every weekday for 3 weeks, for five miles in moderately hilly countryside. It's a modest amount of exercise, but at the end of that period I noticed a massive change in my speed about the badminton court. I felt like I could fly But then I stopped cycling (work, life, other lame excuses). And of course, I was back to my usual mediocre badminton. Exercise. You'll be amazed how much difference some regular cycling can make.
