You have reminded me to start a thread for Misaki Matsutomo.

I met up with Misaki Matsutomo at our 2010 Australian Open GP tournament, held in Melbourne.

IMHO, Misaki Matsutomo could have won our tournament if she did not sustain a leg injury while playing against Kang Hae Won (KOR) in Round 2 WS (on Thursday 15-Jul-2010).

So, let us monitor the progress of Misaki Matsutomo. She is now only 18.

IMHO, Misaki Matsutomo could be moving into the Top 10 BWF WS World Rankings very soon.

Talked to her before at the North Shore International 2008 in NZ. She's a stunning player. I watched her beat NZ's top WS player when she was just 16. She looks like a typical Japanese highschool girl, but hits harder and faster than men.. lol.

A little video about her (in Japanese):

Hahaha...... Her eyes are so big.

She should see the shuttlecock twice the size that we can see it.

She could not advance to the QF of the Youth Olympic Games Due to injury? I remember chris@ccc mentioned before, she needs 5 or 6 months to fully recover?

Yes, Misaki's leg injury sustained at our 2010 Australian Open GP was pretty bad.

I am surprised that she came to participate in this 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, just 1 month later.

I think she forced herself to play, but eventually failed. Hopefully she can rest more and skip some tournaments so that her injury won't get more serious. Between, in the video, she is using Hello Kitty pencil case, still looks like a little girl. haha...

A little video about her (in Japanese):
Initially, I had assumed that St Ursula was the mecca for badminton, where they groom young uprising stars. But from this video, there can be seen so many players but only one Misaki. She's obviously just talented!
In an interview, her school coach said something like (my Japanese is rudimentary) he being very proud of her. Apparently, she was the only one who has won three titles back to back to back

Misaki san is playing so well at the 53th Japan Adults Badminton Championship. She advanced to the semi final of both WS and WD. She beat her senior teammate Shizuka Uchida at the QF today 21-13, 19-21, 22-20. She will be playing against Taruno Megumi for tomorrow SF. She and her doubles partner Ayaka Takahashi bt Naoku Fukuman/Ikue Tatani at QF today too. Can she win both titles? Let's wait and see.
