1) Playing style: extremely agressive. Prime example of this is the Gade match - look at how many unforced errors Gade made at the WC05 Semi-final (because of defending), and also look at Lin's Smash winners stats. Stats (Lin Vs. Gade, WC05 SF): Smash Winners: 35 Vs. 27 Unforced errors: 13 Vs. 33 2) Fitness: Lin Dan is one of the fittest, if not the fittest badminton pros at the moment. His constant jump smashing strains every part of the human body, yet, Lin dan can do this for a long time, probably 1 and a half games at a time. This extreme fitness also what makes him win rubber sets. 3) Mentality: Lin always seems to win games which are rubber sets (apart from AE2005, but that was fixed >_>). His mentality allows him to overcome what is really happening and he focuses on playing his game and winning. Check out the semi final WC 05 also - Gade was incredibly nervous and made lots of unforced errors, while Lin only made 3. Feel free to add more people!
Togey, you posted this at a wrong time Lin was out of gas to play Taufik today,he barely looked like he was there.
He may be number one, but he is not a champion. His fitness is number 1, but his techniques and tactics lag far behind many players. To be a champion and remembered he needs to improves these areas.
Dan is far more consistent then taufik. Dan just won the China Open for good measures... I didn't see Taufik playing ? I wonder why ? chicken ? The next time they meet, my money is on Dan. Dan had more tougher matches then Taufik going into the finals of the WC. I don't rate Taufik at all.
lin dan will still be remembered. he has been holding the number 1 spot for such a long time. we still have to give him credit for that. go lindan!
True, LinDan could be "more consistent" than Taufik, *overall*. But when it comed down to it, head to head, playing in a "neutral" arena, the last 2 or 3 encounters between those 2, LinDan has been "powerless".. As for Taufik missing on the recent China Masters(invitational tournament) not China Open(which is coming up in Nov. and i'm sure Taufik will be there), according to an Indonesian newspaper report, the Indonesian team weren't given an invitation to attend it. Even then, if given, most likely they will skip it and they needed a time-off after their trip to the U.S.(WC). So as many of the other top world players were missing in the China Masters. Did you see how many Chinese players were there to play in comparison to other international players??The China's team even brought out the junior/2nd and 3rd team players to play against the physically drained 1st team players, and they still could not unseat them.. BTW, it looks like none of the China's players(LinDan included) will come to Indonesia in about 2 weeks to play in the Indonesian Open.. Well, we shall see..LinDan will have a chance to redeem himself again in front of his home supporter this coming Nov. in the China Open tournament.. As far as "LinDan had a more tougher matches than Taufik going into the finals of the WC", my reply is yes and no. If LinDan is really worth and want to prove that he IS #1, then he shouldn't even take 3 games to defeat Gade. Nor in the 2nd round, where he went 3 games to defeat Shoji Sato. Heck, comparing him and Taufik in the recent WC, i believe LinDan had more 3 games matches in comparison to Taufik. Well, even after winning the Olympic and WC title??...In home court matches, both have won their own..But in a "neutral" court, I believe Taufik has a 2-1 advantage(LinDan's win over Taufik was about 4-5 yrs. back when LinDan first burst into the badminton scene in Phillipine)..But Taufik's last 2 victories over LinDan have been "convincing", to say the least..
Agree 100% with the above statement. But I disagree when part about Lin Dan not being a Champion. By definition, Lin Dan is a "champion", the one that is Ranked # 1. Lin Dan is Ranked # 1 because he played and won more tournaments than anyone else based on his fitness not his Badminton techniques. I guess the saying goes, doesn't matter how you do it, as long as you do it.
Monkey: that's your opinion and you are entitled to it but just ask around, just about everyone in the know, knows that Taufik is more talented than Lin Dan and a better Badminton player in just about all aspects. All you have to do is watch both of them play to know this.
The reason that LD is # 1 is that he plays by far the most tournaments from all top players and in all these tournaments he is mostly consistent. This off course has to do with his fitness cause he hasnt suffer from major injuries. But great champions will be remembered by winning important titles and not by ranking or winning mediocre tournaments like german or swiss open. It's not that I don't like LD cause I really like him compete but my vote goes to taufik. He isn't number one but has won the two major titles and is just the player with supreme talent and skill, not comparable with any player in the game
One thing for sure, Taufik is far more consistant than LD in big events. Now, you rather be consistant in big tournaments or small tournaments? Most of top players weren't at the ''China master' are they all chicken? If he's a chicken to play against LD how come LD struggled so bad in WC? Now tell me who's scared of who. The next time they meet, I hope for the badminton fans that LD can do better than what he did he WC. He's a very good and tough player, I just hope he didnt't catch the Taufik phobia just like Gade, Kenneth and Chen Hong. To say LD has tougher matches going into the finals is quite arguable. Was his draw harder than Taufik or he made it hard because he didn't play at his usual level? In the semi's, I rate LCW as dangerous or even more than Gade, but Taufik played well and managed to win in straight sets.
Taufik has a mental edge over Lin Dan, just like Lin Dan has a mental edge over Peter Gade and peter Gade has a mental edge over Cheng Hong. Once LD gets over that mental edge I am sure we will see a different player. LD has a mental edge over alot of chinese and foreign players cause he knows how they play and that he can beat them (and he does !!!).... but against Taufik he just crumbles like Cheng Hong crumbling against Peter Gade (8-1 to gade over the last 9 times they have met).
Ya well said! He needs to improve on his net play.. frankly its just terrible I think if he brush up on his attitude, and lose the attitude of thinking he is the unbeatable, I am sure he will improve and become a better player
Taufik had hard time making into the final, he played all the match, whereas LD received a bye on the 1st round~ Taufik also came accross 3 amazing player Boonsak Ponsana, Kenneth Jonassen & LCW... No excuse for LD lost.. I hope he learn from this and become a better player!
de facto, taufik is # 1 de jure, lin dan is # 1 de facto, taufik is # 1 look at head to head, taufik wins 4-1 and lindan lost badly to taufik in 2 recent previous games
^ I wonder who is more arrogant ? the one that claims ranking means nothing to him or the one that strives to be consistently ranked no 1 ?
well, head to head, taufik wins4-2, i think hmm, when and where did taufik claim that? plz give a link... cheers
