No he is not the best. I beat him the other night in my dreams. I doubt he has ever beat me in his dreams, so I guess it's 1-0 to me.

I agree. Ranking can only show a player is more consistent at a period of time. But again, how to identify "best", talent? real performance? consistency?

For example, Taufik might be one of the best (if not the best) in talent. If he can control his temper, and smooth his attitude problem a bit, he might already be the one for long time. Too bad, he's not.

Taufik beating LD recently in the World Champs doesn't necessarily mean he is better than him. I could easily claim the same that LD is way better than Taufik because he beat him in the Sudirman Cup.

all players have weaknesses and strong points. Example: Lin Dan may have lost to Taufik, but Lin is able to defeated chen hong, but chen hong defeated Taufik. the situation goes on with many other players.

Not even close - Taufik is the best. Wins when he needs to. Mentally tough as nails. Most players are already a set down before setting foot on the court.

Try this. Would you not say Tiger Woods is the best in his sport? He gets beaten 3 times out of every 4 in tournaments he enters yet wins when necessary (majors/big tournaments). Much like Taufik, he's got this mental grip on his opponents.

Wins when HE needs to? Sudirman Cup 05 Finals China Vs. Indonesia. Did he win? No.

OK, let me rephrase. He wins most of the time when he needs to. Can't be said of Lin Dan, though.

well, taufik became no.1 when he was 19;)

i dont think the rank stands for so much as it is based on how many tournaments you attend, but i never deny lin dan has a good performance in the open from which he got many points. but it is not that convincing you say you are the best but always have a bad display in the BIG match....
lin dan has no pretext for the failure in wc, it is wise to admit the fact.
he has a lot to do for matching his no.1 status.

taufik is the best player definitely at the moment:p

look forward to their next encounter

Lin Dan will very likely be the best and be as dominant as Taufik if he matures some more in the next few years and can get over his horrible WC and Olympic experiences.
