Tan Fook leads under-strength squad to China

    PETALING JAYA: An under-strength Malaysian team will take part in the US$250,000 China Masters, which begin in Beijing on Wednesday.

    Except for Choong Tan Fook and women's singles player Wong Mew Choo, all the others who featured in the just concluded World Championships in Anaheim have been given a break from competition.

    The last batch of players returned home from Anaheim yesterday.

    Tan Fook will renew his partnership with Lee Wan Wah while Kuan Beng Hong will lead the Malaysian challenge in the men's singles. The others in the fray are Lee Tsuen Seng, Yeoh Kay Bin, K. Yogendran and Mohd Roslin Hashim.

    All of them have Chinese top players in their path in the early rounds. The Chinese line-up for the new tournament on the International Badminton Federation (IBF) calendar include, world championship silver medallist Lin Dan, Chen Hong, Bao Chunlai, Chen Yu and world junior champion Chen Jin.

    Denmark's Peter Gade-Christensen, a semi-finalist at the world championships, has also confirmed participation.

    THE SQUAD

    Men's singles: Kuan Beng Hong, Lee Tsuen Seng, Yeoh Kay Bin, K. Yogendran, Mohd Roslin Hashim.

    Women's singles: Wong Mew Choo.

    Men's doubles: Gan Teik Chai-Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif, Hoon Thien How-Tan Boon Heong, Lee Wan Wah-Choong Tan Fook.
