Rudy Hartono
I have come across an article written in Malay about the life and times of Rudy Hartono, about his belief in praying before a
match, his disappointments etc. Anyone interested in this article pls give me your email and maybe someone could translate it into English for all to see as my Malay is blur.
I am still contining with my mission to secure films of his major
successes and have about 20-30 years left to succed.Imagine a man listed in Guiness book of records and as big as Pele or
Muhamad Ali and there is not a single film or documentary dedicated to him, even in his own country !

Re: Rudy Hartono
he is my idol. the way he play singles is very unique.....racket is face high ready to attack most of the time. seven consecutive all england singles champion from 1968-1974 is the best ever, 8 overall is also the most for all england singles champion. i've seen him play live a few times. his quick smash and hard slice dropshot make him the best in my opinion.

Re: Rudy Hartono
OK guys who have some connections with Ina.
Did you remember if Ina ever broadcast on TV
the 1980 World Champs or 1979 Thomas Cup.If so
someone in Ina must have recorded it.Help me locate these
people and I promise to make copies and distribute to you
fellas cheap. For the moment the only video of Rudy is the 1982
Thomas Cup where he played his final match and you can get it
from the Canadian site.
By doing it this way I won't be infringing any copyright or
licensing problems.
I even tried to restore the 1958 Thomas Cup finals where Ina
won their first Thomas Cup featuring Ferry Sonneville(rudy's
sifu)and Tan Joe hock but the film was damaged beyond
repair and I am afraid may be forever lost.Maybe there's a set
somewhere in Ina.

Re: Rudy Hartono
I watched on TV the Thomas Cup game between Malaysia and Indonesia. Malaysia won the cup and yes Rudy Hartona (possible 18 years at that time) won his singles games against Tan Aik Huang and Yew Cheng Ho.
I watched on TV the All England final when Rudy Hartono beat Tan Aik Huang in the final.
I have been searching for the above games for a very long time as it aspired me to play badminton when I was a kid, and I want to show them to my 10 year old son as he has now started to play badminton seriously.
By the way, my idol at that time is not Rudy Hartono but Tan Aik Huang, always mesmering by his stroke plays.

Good response to badminton clinic
By CHARLES FERNANDEZ
EVEN eight-time All-England champion Rudy Hartono of Indonesia must have been surprised with the number of children who turned up for the badminton clinic held at Michael's Badminton Academy in Bandar Puteri, Puchong recently.
When the former champion held a clinic in Genting Highlands two years ago, about 1,000 children attended the clinic but the recent badminton clinic organised by Kelab Sukan Komuniti Puchong Perdana (KSKPP) attracted 1,612 primary schoolchildren.
This “Badminton Clinic of a Thousand Hopes” for children below the age of twelve is the first of its kind to be held and credit should be given to KSKPP for organising the biggest badminton clinic so far.
KSKPP president T. Mohan said he viewed the project as an ideal platform to boost the game among the young badminton enthusiasts.
“The aim of this project is not to look for a champion but more to inculcate and nurture an interest in them to take up sports, whatever the event may be, from young,'' said Mohan.
The response to this clinic is a clear indication that there is a big pool of players wanting guidance and encouragement.
“This is indeed an inspirational start and it is wonderful to see so many young people waiting to play the sport. To most of them money is the problem as badminton is an expensive sports. Therefore, community sports clubs can help them in this aspect,'' added Mohan.
He said although the club was only formed a year ago, it was an ambitious entity with its sights firmly set on bigger programmes that would benefit the youngsters as a whole.
The club started a junior development programme for children in Puchong last year and its aim is to provide opportunities for children from the lower income group in Puchong.
It also started a weekly training programme and currently about 70 children are involved in the programme.
Several former and current national players helped out in the one-day clinic with James Chua and K. Yogendran providing the thrills.
The clinic was launched by National Sports Council director-general Datuk Ramlan Abdul Aziz.
The children were divided into three age groups (below eight years, below 10 years and below 12 years) and they were taught basic skills like grip and hitting techniques, net play, smash, drop shots and service.
