the weirdest shot i made that went over was when i was recieving a serve, i was just going to clear deep but for some reason it hit metal and went over as a drop very nicely. although, i have seen my friend tried to put away a smash on the net but he focused too much on power that he missed the bird but as his racket was swinging towards his back and under his arm, he made contact with the birdie and went over. he basically hit the bird in his back with his right arm under his left. hope that made sense, but it was definitely the weirdest shot. Im sure you guys have better ones than mines.
Okay, this wasn't a badminton shot, and I didn't make it, but this was one of the funniest "shots" I've seen... One summer, my dad was swinging a flyswatter around, trying to get a fly during dinner. My mother was getting nervous because some of his swings were getting close to her head, so she was screaming "if you hit me, I'm gonna divorce you" (she wasn't serious), and she decided to hide in the kitchen. So, my dad is still swinging wildly at the fly and as my mom came back to see how things were going, my dad hit the fly mid-flight and it flew across the room into my mom's mouth. After a moment of initial shock, both me and my dad started rolling on the floor. Since he didn't hit her with the swatter, they didn't get a divorce.
My shot was just pure luck. I was playing doubles and the opponent had a BRUTAL kill shot when i was at net. I decided to stay up, cover my face with my racket and my balls with my free hand The guy smashed insanely hard, the bird HIT MY RACKET and without me doing a single thing, the bird went about...mid-court kinda like a drive. The guy playing back at the time dove, lifted and gave ME THE KILL SHOT ON A SILVER PLATTER! I then pwned the shot and...sacked the guy with the bird...he was in...PAIN. That's my heroic story n_n mmm...that rally will be remembered for a while xD
A couple of weeks ago, I played a shot that I have never seen before. It was bizarre I was receiving serve in doubles. I tapped the serve flat towards the middle of the court, but the net cord intercepted it. This net interception made the shuttle spin in a very strange way: Instead of a flat drive, the shuttle spun along the net cord to the left about a metre, then spun back the same distance along the net to the right, and finally fell straight to the ground.
impressive! mine wasn't really a weird shot, but I was going for a smash from rear-midcourt and I completely sliced it into an attacking clear, landed right on the right rear corner on the other side completely deceiving myself
im a lefty and my back hand is REALLY unbelievably weak. it was the 3rd match.. and it's obvious now they know that... cause the people playing me kept on doing clears to the right rear corner when im over on the right... and one time, I was not quick enough to go over there and so i'd totally not be able to hit it... so might as well run there and hit it over haha. and i RAN there...with me facing the back court.. i did a really high drop.. it looked like it was out... so they didnt bother.. but it hit the net and miraculously was on the line...! it was sooooooo unbelievable!!! =D their expression and OH MY GOSH I SHOULD HAVE WENT FOR IT was my highlight of that day
ok hum this happened while i was at badminton camp, we were playing singles, anyways my friend/opponent cleared it and i though it was going out so i just watched it as i was already standing at the back. it was about to let it fall but then i relized that it was going to land in...well i was infront of the shuttle and it was already a lil above hear height near the center of my back a lil ways out from my back though so me being right handed just twisted my body with my right arm comming behind my back and hitting the shuttle between my legs and it sailed right over the net into a nice drop shot was so weird when i did it.
I hit a cross court net drop which slid across the white tape. The bird started to slow down to pretty much a stop and made it's way slowly over the net. It was still spinning when it was going over. You could even hear the bird spinning against the tape as it went over the net. My friend on the other side just stared at it. This shot isn't really weird, but it sure is interesting.
erm, dunno about wierd but this is probably my luckiest shot: Last match of the season, match point at 16 all (setting to 3 points) on my sides second serve. So i went to go for a backhand flick serve, smacked my wrist on the flick and the shuttle glided just over the net and landed just past the service line - whilst my opponent was still moving towards the back of the court I must say, it was a rather good way to win a tight match
There was a time that I played doubles...I prepared to smash, but lo and behold, I hit the bird by the frame...and it turn out to be a very nice drop right between the two opponents standing side-by-side. None of them gave any response...
i've done soem weird shots last year. i was runnign my ass off in a recreation game. i wasn't paying attention. i had to run towards my forehand-back-corner(right-back) and hit a backhand drop( low) i was goign way out, drop on top of a 1.50-post wich was standing inside teh field. and teh shuttle dropped in another was in a singels, in Holland I'm a C. and i was playing a B. he had to pull his punches. i lunged to get a drop, and it went horribly wrong, the shuttles went over about 10 inches to high, he decided to brush the tape. brushing it as hard as he could: strait at my head, but luckiliy enough i had my racket there. he brushed teh shuttle right on teh sweetspot..i scored a great point that day one of my dumber ones was when i rushed in on a short-serve, when i realized it was out(in front) so i didnt hit..the shuttle woudl have been out, had it not landed on top of my left foot.. another fun time was when i played teh singels final in a junior tournament, i won in 2 sets..both last points ticked against the net and dropped over..wasn't really nice i guess..
Won two consecutive points that were weird and definitely not worth it... ...jumped up for a smash and due to poor lighting (I don't play there anymore) I couldn't judge the shuttle well. I went up for the smash, hit the bird on the side of my NS7000 and the bird dropped for a winner. But this smash cracked the frame and I didn't know it at the time... ...I was serving and the next serve I hit went completely sideways and the rotation of the bird was crazy for a service winner. Everyone was like what the heck? as was I; but I still didn't know my racket was cracked... ...Finally on the next serve, again, my serve went sideways and weird. That's when I looked at my racket and realized it was cracked.
When i was doing a cross-court drop the bird just sit on the top of the net for like 30seconds it looks like it wan't gonna move.... but afterall, it went over... i should have blow it over(is it OK...?)
I was lunging towards the net and perform a cross-court drop but I had not realized that I had completely missed the bird! So because of this, the bird instead of being flicked to the opposite corner, I actually hit near the T-Joint and made it drop where it was. Me and my opponent were both confused lol.
an over-the-head round-the-back shot....pretty weird....the funny thing is, this didn't happen just once! i actually nailed it several times already...haha...bad technique, i know....but it works
Not really sure if this counts, but in a game on Tuesday my opponent was doing a desperate clear from their line that was heading straight over the net. I wanted to smash but didn't want to stretch over their side of the net. I ended up trying to tap it over so they couldnt make it back in time. Somehow I managed to hit the shuttle from their side of the net over onto my side of the net very embarassing!
anyone ever hit a shot purely on the shaft of your raquet? i did that once or twice - totally miss judged the shot and hit it with the shaft of the raquet and won the point (underhanded)
haha i did that on monday when i went to play badminton, i did a drop and my friend returned it up i knew he was going to and i was waiting to pound it down for the win what happened it ended up catching the tape and i didnt expect that and scrwerd up my swing and ended up doing a net smash with the shaft after that i spent the next few minutes looking over my racquet making sure there was no damage...but the shuttle did go over with quite a bit of speed.
Not sure if you can call this a weird shot or a trick shot... I was driving with my friend and he happened to hit a drive to my backhand side. I was too late in getting to it (im right-handed), so i started twisting my body clockwise with my feet planted on the ground. I'm pretty much looking towards the back of my backhand side now with my body twisted and my legs still firmly planted. Hopefully you can imagine that much...now at the same time of the twist, i just aimlessly do a backhand drive and surprisingly i hit the bird and drove it right back.
Just happened at VRC last Sat night actually. During doubles, off our opponent's weak midcourt lift, I elevated for a jump smash. This is where the hirarity began. Somehow I totally mistimed the jump smash and missed the bird completely . Reaction took over. With the racket already swung across my body from the missed smash, I swung back (upwards) tracing the same path of the "smash" as both my feet and the bird continued heading to the ground. My racket must have caught the bird literally inches from the floor, sending it back across the net. At this point one could only imagine what our opponents were thinking. One of them was either so surprised to see the bird returning in such a bizarre manner or thought I had flicked the bird back to him, that he caught it. Confusion ensued. He was just about to serve (thinking he had won the point) when I informed him of what had happened. After clearing the air–even my partner had no idea – we all agreed this was a most incredible fluke and had a good laugh. Witness – wood_22_chuck (were you even paying attention, Dave? )
