I am currently leading a group of students towards a design of a shuttlecock launcher. This launcher will be able to replicate all shuttlecock trajectories and simulate an entire game of badminton. We are currently investigating the economic feasibility of the shuttlecock launcher and the features that users of the launcher may want (ie. cost, portability, weight, shuttlecock capacity, remote control, etc). Sounds cool, I'll check it out. If I didn't have a Double's Partner who was as crazy about Badminton as I, I'd seriously think about getting a Bad Launcher.
that thing looks like it was developed in the 60's they need to make a smaller less expensive one that people can afford you can get a reasonably good tennis ball machine for under $3500
When I think of coaching, the greatest disincentive is having to manually (and laboriously) feed the shuttle one by one to the trainee. How nice it will be if a machine can do this and the coach will then be able to have more time to observe the trainee's actions and offer solutions, corrections and improvements. The quality of training will improve I think. Manpower in feeding will be greatly reduced and productivity should increase. But, however good a machine may be, it can never quite replace the personalized feeding by the coach as he can improvise on the spot, depending on the situation and alertness or otherwise of the trainee. The coach has many more options than the machine in general. I would like to see a shuttle launcher being able to replicate the feeding duties of the coach as close as possible. It should be able to launch the bird for the hard shots (clears, lobs, drives, smashes) as well as the soft shots (net play, drops) and to do this at different levels (low, medium, high), different angles and at different distances. It should be lightweight yet tough and durable (even a young teenager can handle it) to allow for easy mobility or portability to be able to be packed up and folded into a size that can be carried about from place to place quite easily, safe to use without jagged and sharp edges. Definitely it will be good if the coach can keep a distance away from the court and trainee for a better observation position and operate the launcher by remote control. A tall order indeed, but as with many, an attractive price will be the bargaining point. Can one get anything good, durable and cheap nowadays?

and when you find one, let me know....I will get a few, pointing in different directions (drops, clears, mid court ......)
that would be fun, maybe use them to film some really low budget film with people getting shot or something I would want to get one
I always think the worst bit about coaching is picking up the shuttles after each exercise! I suspect there's more money to be made in a device that can pick up and stack the shuttles (copyrighted & patent pending ) than in a shuttle launching machine.
Maybe it is different in the UK, but over here I used to see coaches making use of the trainees to pick them up and stack them nicely in tens, 15s or even 20s (?) for the coach to feed. The more skilful coaches can really handle quite a high stack! And the kids seem to like it, doing a favour for the coach.
a shuttle luancher would be nice but nothing I can afford because sometimes people don't won't to play with me so I need something to feed for me as I cannot play on my own It has to be portable Reasnobly priced Relible no point in it having impossible trajectorys that would never happen on a match
