    hi,

i have strung my racket at 25lbs at 2 separate shops and found that one shop the tension seems to drop much faster than the other. both are bg66. is it the stringer fault or is it the stringing pattern that is different? thanks

The first thing to make sure would be see if they are of the same tension to start-off. If the stringers dont calibrate their machines every now & then, there is a good chance that even though they say 25 lbs, it may not be actually 25 lbs.

Its not the shops' fault, its their budget, they nv buy the material to ensure the stringing in tiptop condition. Some shop doesn't have the material. And sometimes the stringing pattern affect also.

Agree, I calibrate my stringing machine each time I string a racket.

Do you have hand crank machine or electric? Either way, you don't need to calibrate everytime... If the instruction does not say how often, I would say once every 3 month is enough imo.

Hand crank. I noticed my machine was fine for about 3 weeks, then all of a sudden it became off my 3 lbs. go figure.

It can also be that the calibrator you use is a little off.

Or, may be you don't/can't notice anything wrong if the tension is off by only 1 lb either way. A 2 or 3 lb deviation is usually noticeable on a regular spring tension calibrator.

BTW, what brand and model is your machine? Not that they matter, of course. Just curious.

P.S.: You do reset the tension setter after you're done stringing, don't you?

My calibrator is off by 1lb. I confirmed this by using my digital scale and loading up 20lbs. worth of weights. Then I pulled the calibrator and it was about 19lbs. I waited a few hours and tried again and again, the 20lbs. read 19lbs. Then I waited a few days and tried the same thing, calibrator read about 19lbs.

Then I took my calibrator and tuned my stringing machine at 20lbs. Then tried 25 and 30 lbs. and my machine was right on.

Yes, each time I set my tension setter to 0 after each string job.

    I have an Eagnas ST-200.

    How to Calibrate the ST-200

    Hi

I just read your post about the stringing machine. I believe you have the same one as mine, ST-200 from Eagnas. I also just order the calibrator, but I don't know how to used it. Other thing, you also mention that you test your calibrator. I would like to know how to test it?
Sorry, I have to much question, cause I am a new in stringing world. Thanks.

    1) Welcome to the stringer's world.
    2) Make sure you calibrate your ST200 before you start using it. Eagnas is known for off calibration.
    3) Do a search on calibration. You will find posts on that subject.
    4) This thread is from 2005. Sir DinkALot is no longer using ST200.

Get an electronic calibrator or electronic fishing scale.
