This past Sunday Roger Federer won the US Open and got US$1.1 million!
I hope that someday soon badminton players can win big money like tennis players!

If they can give away $100,000 per player I would be glad already. 1 Million is still too far stretched.

yes, i think 1 million is to far to reach in the near future. Unless after Tony/Howard won, badminton become very very popular in US, then it will attrack more sponsors and more prize money to give away. also to attract more sponsors, Europe is the key except US, because now badminton is still identic with Asia.

Well, Taufik Hidayat won his gold medal at the 04 Olympic, he received almost an equivalent of $ 500,000.00 from the government. And for Indonesia standard, that is huge amount of money. And many who live in that 3rd world country would have never touch or have that much money in the whole life. That is one of the reasons why badminton is so pupolar there. It is a like a way out from the gutter as compared to basketball or football here in the US. Those successful players usually are from the poor family background ..... for them to get a chance at fame and richness, they give their life up just for badminton. They live, eat, sleep, dream about badminton. They are just hungry ........
