Ever had partners who keep giving you tips on each and every stoke that you play. Often most of the mistakes are commited by them but still keep giving silly advice like "Stay in the Front coz back is mine". Wonder how to deal with that. And they also keep poaching and missing shots.
If it happens in the middle of a game, finish it to best of your ability. After the game, you can choose never to play with him again.
yea I encounter those type of people a lot . At first it kinda funny and I let it pass ear by ear, but then he just keep on saying this and that and it get really annoy. And usually I just turn around and say, " Hey, shut the **** up!" but not yelling though, just normal tone. If he doesnt stop after that then I just keep setting up shot to opponent to smash an dfinish the game quickly.
im the kinda person that if me and my partner start messing up i try to figure out whats going on and tell him. however weve been playing together for 2 years and hopefully going to offsaa this year. do you think that would bother you if someoen u played in competition with was trying to help the team win?
I totally agree with all of you. Basically, I admit that I'm not a strong player because I'm skinny at the age of 30. and sometime have no idea how to create opportunity for my partner. Most of the time I will encounter my "new" partner instruct me "To stay at the front and he will take care the back" HEY COME ON !!!!!!, Doubles is about co-operation of 2 players. You have to observe your new partner strong point & weakness before decide your formation. If you have any comments please voice out after the game, DON"T KEEP ON BLAMING YOUR PARTNERS in the middle of the game. For me, I won't sound my partner in the middle of the game because of his mistake. This will make your game play worst.
doubles issue. Normal problem. Just try to play against him once a while and try to beat him. Once you are better than him and beats him regularly; he'll keep his mouth shut. Its an ego issue. He must have thought that he's the better player. You need to show who is the boss around.
Met with such case too. He just can't simply cannot keep his mouth shut and throughout the entire match he keeps on giving me instructions and i followed. and we lost in the end. His strategy can't work not nuts! i'm the one playing my style why should i follow him sort of.
Double is all about teamwork. For whatever way, if 2 ppl can work out something good together, it's all good. On the other hand, if 2 ppl can't get along for whatever reason, just look for a different partner next time.
I hear you... just got paired up with a guy who: AT the start of our first practice game.. told me " why don't you just stay in front so you can pick the fruits heh, heh" has only one kind of return shot, an underhand flick which 90% of the time lands about a foot short of the long service line for doubles (yes I watched where the foot of the oponent where when they smashed me for the nth time) or the bird will be about 7 feet off the floor only.. am feeling so very much like a target... and to top it off, he uses the same shot for a service.. about 90% of the time.... doesn't know how to rotate.. will serve high, and when I go to my side of the court, will jump in front of me when the opponents drop to my side.. so I said to myself fine, maybe he want a triangle - type rotation (sorry don't know the correct term). so I let him handle the front when he serves, then suddenly he serves low and retreats... and when he clears and the bird is clear back to him, suddenly freezes and looks at me when the bird drops to his back..... so I just stood there, and let him get all the shots .. didn't want to risk myself and my racket.. my opponents even asked me why I kinda lost interest after we finished the match.. hehe just claimed exhaustion .. (mental LOL!!!)
The difference between singles and doubles is that, you cannot blame anyone but yourself in singles, but you have an option in doubles. How nice. Have you ever considered the point of views from both partners? It will be interesting. This is precisely the reason why it takes time to develop a good doubles combination-blaming your partner or vice versa is a sympthom that all is not going well.
Kind of agree with taneepak.. but the thing is that most ppl get agitated and end up trying too hard to get over the "#*(&$@(*$#" from their partners ... Conclusion -> you lost the game!! Sounds hard but get over it and play your own game with minimum communication with that fella .. might not win but at least you enjoyed the fame too ...
I tried this a couple of days back. Just told my partner in a low tone between points... "Buddy actually you are the one making the mistakes. Also froint and back is not the best unchanging policy. We will need to adjust based on the pace and the positioning of the shuttle. So if we are expecting shots let us split up else try to cover as much court between us" He shut up and played and we won !!
nice to hear. i also find these sort of people annoying. that is why i usually go to badminton clubs with a friend.
Glad to hear that man .... thats how the game should be ... mutual understanding + a little of "necessary" communications on court ...

Have you ever wondered why we are less quarrelsome with doubles partners who are strangers than with partners who are closer? The closer the partners, especially with wives, sons or daughters, the more critical we become. The worst doubles combination must be between mother and daughter, from my experience.
Guess this is human nature ... very seldom that one will start yelling or screaming at somebody he dont really know ... as for family or friends, you know each other too well and probably know that it will not hurt with those remarks ... just my 2 cents by the way, you are situated in HK? any idea if the rackets there are cheaper? i will going to my mum-in-laws in HK so trying to find a chance to get a better racket.
