It happens to me all the time as well but to EVERY toe nail. It really hurts and then they start to fall off and they don't grow back looking normal. My toes are really ugly and being a girl, I can't wear those open toes shoes any more coz it's too embarrassing. I don't know if it's because of the shoes or just that my nails are weak. Anyhow, just bought a new pair of Yonex SHB 98LX and hope that my nails won't hurt anymore. :(

How does the shoe fit when you're just standing? Sounds to me like your shoes are abit tight and pinching in your toe area (forefoot). Also you need to tell us whether you're a lefty or right handed player. Your leading foot gets the most pressure after a lunge due to the braking action. Proper lunging action means extending with your racquet foot forward but some players do it the other way around:eek:.

In my case, it seems like my shoes were too wide in the front and my toes kind of have too much room to move around so I sometimes have to pinch my toes down to get a good grip. Don't know if it's got to do with it though.

Mizunos and ASICS shoes are undersized for international standards. You need to get a half a size bigger than your shoe size. I had a Mizuno Lightning before that's my regular size and it pinches in the forefoot area. My current ASIC VTR-GEL is half a size bigger and it fits comfortably.

Yeah, that'll happen too. Moral of the story here: try before you buy and get a pair of shoes that fits properly.

LOL! :p When I first read the title I was like "Wow, that's scary! "

Your toe is bleeding because you are putting too much pressure on your toe(s). Check to make sure your shoes are not too tight.

I had the same problem. A pair of my ashaway shoes were too hard and tight which gave me a black right toe. Another Yonex pair was a bit loose but I wore thick socks and felt much better.

My lunging technique was incorrect too. I was landing my right foot on my toes. The correct way should be landing on your right heel.

If you are wearing Wave Gate, the 'wide feet' design might be giving you some problems?

Hmm... for my case, i have toenails that are abit curvy by nature unlike many who have those normal toenails that grow straight out...its like when they grow, the tend to curve inwards abit. :( hence i always make it a point to cut them short the night before any games. otherwise, it can be real painful even with the socks on as the toenails make contact with the insoles of my shoes as i lunge n move around while playing. So i tink keeping yr toenails short while playing is also a good precaution against accidental damages to the toenails n internal bleeding. :p Of course, the right size of a pair of shoes is of the utmost importance. :D

You could get those "shoe stretchers". They are a wooden replica of a foot and can extend out to make shoes larger. This will give a bit more space for your toes and will hopefully make your shoes wearable again.
