so..trying to put it into perspective..
how high can you jump..and how high does that take you?
take a high room (3m for me..nice attic)
measure ground-cealing (3m for me)
take a strait stick. and try to poke the cealing. the smallest amount of stick you need is the best.
total hight- stick length= total jump height.
i got 2,93 (meters) dunno what that is in x'x''(feet?)
EDIT: btw, do you jump strait up. or take a minor run for it? if i do 1 step, and then a 2-feet-jump i can lmost touch teh 3m...

Attempt this a few times and record your highest result.
If you can't mark the wall while jumping, mark the wall prior and see if you can touch that mark. If so, mark higher, until you reach your max.

or both with 2 hands.
if your meisure the non-jump-length with 2 hands, and the jump and reach with 1, you'll get weird data..

Thanks everyone for the valuable info. This forum has given lot of motivation to go to gym.
I jump straight up without any step or run. I acheived 24 inches today. There are two ways to jump straight up. one is to start from a squat position and jump up. Another is to stand straight -> go into squat -> immediately jump back(don't wait in squat position). The 2nd method is better in acheiving better jump heights(improved my jump by 1 inch) but takes a bit of practice before you see the improvement. Also stretching your hip flexors before jumping also helps a lot(1/2 to 1 inch).
One site mentioned 34" to be maximum but looks like it's way lower than maximum. It's good to know that so much vertical jump is acheivable. I was targetting 26" before, now I am targetting 30". I touch total height of 9'7". 3" short of basketball rim. Maybe one day I will be able to dunk!
Also running jump is higher than standing jump.
Deadlifts are good exercise for improving vertical jump but puts a lot of strain on back, especially if you are tall. Maybe I didn't do it properly. Also I read that there is a special bar for doing deadlifts, it has a curve so that weights lie besides your legs hence puts less strain on back. I find squats and jump squats good enough.
Does hamstring curls help in vertical jumps?

34" is definitely not the "maximum". For instance, I know that back in the early 80s, everyone on the Cuban National Volleyball Team had at least a 30" vertical. I remember my Volleyball Coach telling me the Cuban Team warming up by each person (except the setter) jumping up and grabbing the TOP of the backboard on a basketball court!

what are better exercises?
-jump as high as you can 50 times each day (or more..)
-plyometrics (box-jump, fall-off jump, jumping over cones, knee tuck jump)
-weight exercises (leg-press, leg crul)
with better i mean: give more power, faster

Best workout for jumping is plyometrics. It works your fast twitch muscles and your leg will have the automatic jumping habit whenever you want to jump. You leg mucles is somesort prgrammed or trained to jump.

good training dude!
So plyometrics is teh way to go...should i really push off and get as high as i can. or just a very fast, and little low, jump?

Did about 70cm ~ 31" at a jump test at the all England a couple of years ago & I was in boots. (I'm 5'8")
It was very similar to a Vertec. . .
First try I had my fingertips just about touching the 1st vane & i pretty much smacked the lot out of place.
They reset it 50 cm higher & managed to get an extra 20 cm worth of vanes.
People have said I have pretty high jumps but you can't really get a sense of it yourself.
Apparently the pro's can hit 1 meter

i ahve the right too tease your short..since teh current topic is the vertical. and mine is 18''...
so in this topic i'm alowed to call ya'll midgets
my vert is still growing luckily enough...and i'm off to go doing my plyometrics right now
wich reminds me. i ahve 2 1kg-ankle weights. any good for plyo's?
