    Hi all,

So I recently played with a tube of these, pretty good stuff, now the only problem is finding a cheap source! so far the cheapest is 14.50USD a tube. Any other places taht offer this shuttle for cheaper?

There are different speeds in the same line of shuttle? How does that work?

I had always thought that the light green tubes (from the Taiwan version of the Victor company, of course) were Champion No. 1 but I just bought a whole box here in Korea that are light green tubes with no "No. 1" sticker on them. It seems they had been selling the ones with the "No. 1" stickers for the same price as the ones without but now the "No. 1" are more expensive and if you only buy the stickerless ones, they are crap. I've never played with a shuttle so heavy. Durable, maybe, but I have to snap half the feathers out before I can even think about playing with them so they deteriorate faster than they otherwise would.

Now I'm thinking I might have got some that were just a faster speed. How do they vary the speed? With weight or with the angle of the feathers?

it could be that u bought some repackaged or fakes victor green. Victor is a brand name, hard to believe they would tinker this to damage their top grade shuttle line.

No, the light green one in Taiwan is not the Champion #1. That is another grade called "Eagle", which is probably equivalent to Champion #3. The feather used for this grade is from ducks, not geese.

The Champion #1 equivalent shuttlecocks from Victor in Taiwan is just called "Champion" which looks like this:

    http://www.cybadminton.com/dispprod.php?cat=shuttlecocks&xml=24-Voctor-Champion

The Champion #1 is never in the tubes of "light green" color. The green tube can be found at the following link:

    http://www.racketsupply.com/champion_no_1.htm

BTW, there is no problem for having the different speeds in the same line. Shuttles are produced, tested for speed, and the flight for their grades and weights (flight speeds). The manufacturing procedure could be found at

    http://www.shuttlecocks.com/

It depends on the temperature and elevation to choose the speed. In US, it is generally 3/50/77. I don't know what the common speed used in Korea but you can find out from other players.

I just found out yesterday that Champion # 3 comes in two versions: duck and goose. Sean, we've been hitting the duck. The goose feather is $1/tube and more durable. I got some coming. :D

That goose feather champion #3 would be either old stock or really new batch. I talked with my dad last night and was told that the goose feather was no longer in shortage since September; however, the labor became more expensive. Therefore, the quality (durabiity and flight) would be improved for most brands but birdies won't be as cheap as before.

I don't understand. The link you sent here shows the light green tube labelled as Champion #1. ie, it shows what you said never happens.

The information at the racketsupply link is identical to that on this page

    http://victorsport.com/ENGLISH/products/cpzx/eshowproducts.asp?ID=7&cpxlid=25

which I thought was also from Victor Taiwan
( I thought this because of the info at this link:
    http://victorsport.com/ENGLISH/gsjje.asp )

That white tube with the light green almond-shaped pattern is the one we get in Korea. If it also has a little sticker on it that says "No. 1", it's good. With no sticker, it's heavy and terrible.

What Victor company website would that black and yellow tube from cybadminton appear on? I don't see it on the European Victor site.

    http://www.victor-sport.de/

or on the Canadian(?) Victor site

    http://www.victorracquets.com/shuttles.html

Thanks for the information, by the way. I'm still getting my head around it.

too bad victor market 2 grades of 'green' label. I use to refer green as victor's best and now i see there is another green that is #3. Very confusing when comparing prices and grade when sometime stores just refer them as victor green but i dunno which one.

Aren't those No. 3's more of a turquoise?

Okay, check out these photos from the Victor Korea website.

The Champion No. 1 (note the little orange sticker; it isn't on the next one)
    http://www.victorind.co.kr/modules/goods_view_pop.php?goods_id=23&goods_src=/bp/ba_shu01_b01.gif

and the Champion (no number) for C$401 for a box of 25 tubes.

    http://www.victorind.co.kr/modules/goods_view_pop.php?goods_id=25&goods_src=/bp/ba_shu03_b01.gif

I see now that the cheaper one (second link) has the speed listed as 77 or 78 (depending on temperature). Is that normally fast? Would that explain why they leave the racquet like a rocket?

By the way, aznricearoni, what colour were the ones you got for US$14.50? I used to get the good ones (light green, "No. 1" sticker on them) through a club in Canada for C$24. When I found the same thing in Korea for basically C$16 a tube (when bought in bulk), I was overjoyed.

    Hopefully here's some clarification:

Victor has some weird/different labelling for different countries. This is what I know:

    1) The best Victor Shuttle is the Victor Champion (Saint Lee). It's a black and yellow tube with Chinese writing on it. Inside the shuttle, the label is a lighter green and it says "Victor" in English and "Victory" in Chinese.

    2) The Victor Eagle aka Champion No. 3, comes in a white tube with mint green accents. There are two versions: goose and duck feather...

...Danggit! I just wrote this long reply and lost most of it. Oh well. :(

Lesson learned: long post = must do in Word. :p

I now can see why it is that confusing since Victor-Korea uses the same type of tubes but differentiates the grades by just putting on one sticker. :p

In Taiwanese and US market, the difference is obvious. In China, the turquoise one is called "light green" if comparing the colors on Champion #1 and #3 tubes side by side. I don't really know about the case in Canada but it might be like someone mentioned before, very ambiguous in a way.

I see the confusion now. Sorry. I only said "light green" because a) it isn't a deep emerald or forest green which I'd call "dark green"; and b) I'd never seen the #3 tube (which I would still call turquoise but, whatever).

It seems clear to me now that I wasted $400 on a whole box of Eagle/No. 3 shuttles packed in No. 1 tubes without a "No. 1" sticker. In fact, if you look at the the URLs that I posted from the Victor Korea website, the only difference between them is that shu03/shu01 part.

So, in the U.S., do your Champion No. 1's come in the black and yellow tube as on the cybadminton link or in the white and green tube like on the racketsupply link? What about in Canada?

That is very confusing. 4 different tube designs for the same company and same product.

not only that, victor gold label isn't a top of the line shuttle where as other brands gold label is top. Plus that we have 3 scales of speed; yonex's, metric and imperial.

I assume the ones I have are the "good" stuff, it is the white tube with the light green on the sides, has the orange IBF logo and the description on the side says "Champion, Approved for International Tournaments", doesn't have the #1 moniker.

In the US market, the champion #1 is in the emerald color tube. The sorta black and yellow (should be black and green, that must be the light...) one is designated for the domestic market of Taiwan. The canada and korean markets seem to be confusing: the korean #1 must have the "no. 1" sticker on it while the canadien one has not #1 but just "Champion", which is more like the "Korean" #3.

Is that clear or still confusing?
