Hey guys, I've been playing recreational badminton, playing for my high school team, and taking lessons at Lee's, and I want to take it to the next level and start playing competitively. Unfortunately, I don't know where to start. I'm too old to try out for Lee's team. Can anyone help me out? I'm 15 btw.

I really don't think you are too old. Just depends on how hard you work. First year is hard, but I believe that if you work hard, with some good coaching, making the team is possible.

Play some drop-ins, like @ Armadale Community center. You can find different varieties of players to play with.

btw Do you take private lessons or group?

I take group lessons. I think I'll ask this question on the general board as well, since my question doesn't have to be limited to Eastern Canada.

I don't think age is the problem, I'm also over 14, and I'm still trying to get in.
Though... I think you should switch to private as SOON as possible before time passes away

For us late starters, we need as much time as possible to catch up :)

By the way, what lvl of group lesson are you taking at the moment?

And... When did you start taking lessons?

I started when I was the same age as you guys (last year at age 15 ) so don't worry.

Other than the school tournament, I went to 2 other tourneys last year which I think you guys should attend too. The first one being the T&DBA tourney (Toronto & District Badminton Association) and the other being pre-OFSAA.

I dunno about any others thus far, I usually keep an eye out on the ontario badminton site.

if u mean going on fridays from 5:30 to 7:00, then u prolly wont improve at all. one huge problem is, there is too much ppl, and u need to take 12 min shifts, and the other thing is, while there is a variety of players, i dun think any1 there can teach u ne thing valuable, especially if ur already training at lee's or mandarin.

I'm in lvl 4-5, too bad there's no lvl 6 or 7 for the spring... Been taking lessons for like 6 months I think?

Those tourneys you mentioned sound interesting, I'll look into that. Do I need to be affiliated with any club or organization in order to join those tourneys?

I would really like to play for team Ontario and gets those shirts with Ontario on the back lol
