i heard from my coach that the best way to move aroud the court and to be the quickest around the court is to do alot of skipping. supposedly 10 minuites a day can really improve your badminton game as it keeps you on your feet at all times. i tried this for about a week and i was highly suprised how this helped my game i started to beat people i never have beaten before. i think i always used to be a bit flat-footed but now im always on my toes ready to recieve the next shot.

Yes and also shadow badminton so that you can move based on muscle memory instead of thinking.

Skipping will make you fast on your feet but if you don't use the correct technique then the court coverage won't be very good. Basics like keeping your weight on your toes and bending your knees somewhat, can be grasped in time without any training. But things like split step, chasse' movement, moving for backhand clear shot etc don't come naturally. Without proper knowledge or coaching we develop some suboptimal way to move around and get stuck with it.
Hence proper basic footwork knowledge is a must.
Now the important question is how to get it. One obvious answer is from the coach or more advanced player. In the absence of the above studying the videos of pros playing is quite helpful. Also many of the threads in this forum will help with some interesting techniques. Ibbs videos are helpful but they are not free.
If you have emule(if not then it's a good idea to download now) then you can download training vedio of ibf. It's really great for footwork. File names are:
    Badminton-Ibf-Training-1.avi
    Badminton-Ibf-Training-2.avi
    Badminton-Ibf-Training-3.avi
Sizes are about 25 to 30 MB
If any problem with downloading these files then I can probably host them on some file sharing website.
    Njoy!

If you're not familiar with skipping rope, 10 minutes is not easy. Good luck. :D

Yes. Try at first 100 skips per minute (spm). If that's too fast, slow down to 80spm. I used to average 120-140spm. Which reminds me, I need to start skipping rope again. :p

    skipping rope

    Hi,
I think skipping rope is good for quick feet. Do u skip with both feet together or in quick steps style? I understand that skipping with both feet simultaneously is detrimental to our knees' joints!!! This will in turn damage our joints and ligaments!!!:crying:

Skipping rope is good, but single jumps are the basic thing. Double jumps and triple jumps is where it's at.

Also, just running the footwork fast helps. Putting shuttles around the court (four corners), and knocking down the shuttles. I usually have four shuttles placed half a foot away from each other at the front, and four shuttles to the side (not the very back). Combined is a total of 16 shuttles. You can run it any way, but I do it forward right, back left, forward left, back right, repeat. Then I get myself timed, and if I did it in more than 26 seconds, I'll do 10 times the seconds I didn't get. I'll probably do that for 4-5 sets, and I think my footwork is decent. (just don't do it too much, my hip started hurting from lunging too much and too quickly).

Single jumps = building endurance, more aerobic

Double/Triple = more building explosive power, more anaerobic.

Ideally, need to do both. :)

Thanks for the clarification :). I'm going to try and skip before and after every practice now. Not only does it improve your footwork, it also passes time while waiting for the ride home ; definitely worth it ;)

Remember not to overdo it or you'll be too tired to actually play. :p
