I've tried about 15 going on 30 different overgrips. I figured I would put them in a chart and rate them. So, coming soon. Currently I will say my favorite tacky grips are: Gamma Supreme Gamma Pro-Tac Prince MicroTac Wilson X-Tra Tac You can't go wrong with any of the above mentioned grips. This is based on tackiness, absorption, feel and durability. The Yonex Super Grap Tacky version has excellent feel but is not durable so not on my list. So Kwun, I feel another sticky coming soon.
Wondering how are their thickness when compare to Yonex Super Grap regular(A440 or AC102EX, 0.60mm). One reason I stick with Yonex is because of my small hand :crying: . If an overgrip is thick, then it's not my type .
I'm just the opposite, I like thick grips because I use the equivalent of a G1-G2 grip. Relatively speaking, the SuperGrap is not that thin. It's average in thickness. If you want something thinner, try the Gamma Pro-Tac which is extra thin, 0.44mm. The tackiness is comparable after a while. I admit the SuperGrap Tacky initially is very tacky but goes away quickly.
No Grips you all mention in Toronto... How come the grips you all people mentioned are not avaliable in Toronto...?
There will be absorbing and cushioning grips as well, though not many. Next up for testing is the Wilson H2O. At first test, the grip was just average. But once wet, it's pretty darn impressive.
if the thickness of a yonex overgrip (supergrap?) is measured 1.0 (scale) hwo thick would the others be? do you still feel the texture of the handle (the 8 sides..)?
The Yonex SuperGrap Tacky is about medium to a bit thin in thickness compared to other overgrips. You can thicken or thin the grip depending how your wrap (double wrap) and/or stretch it. Feeling the texture of the handle is dependent on your original grip. If no original grip, for sure you can feel it. If the original grip is thin, yes, if cushioned or thick, probably not to not as much. It's all relative.
I'm trying out Wilson's HipGrips http://www.hipgrips.com/. It's thinner than Yonex SuperGrap and doesn't feel as tacky. Personally, I prefer the SuperGrap for their feel and price. But, it does look unique, though. I haven't used it long enough to see how long it lasts compared to the SuperGrap. Since it's not tacky to begin with, I'd expect it to last longer. One thing I do miss when I put it on is that little bit of adhesive at the end of the tapered part. That makes it easier for me to start wrapping the grip over. Minor nitpick at best. You can get them direct or from the TennisWarehouse (cheaper), amongst others.
I think Wilson Pro overgrip is also a good choice. While I sometimes hurt my fingers due to extra tacky grips, I don't get hurt using Pro overgrip. In the meanwhile, it still provide good control / soft feeling / moisture absorbing. The drawback is it's durability and price.
hey S4MadMan, Just wondering, have u forgoten about this grip guide? Or is it in the making? No rush or pressure though Thanks
LOL! Didn't forget, just haven't been able to do a complete analysis. I will just post what I have late tonight...going to play Bad with "Gunawan", Henry Gunawan now...
Hi, I use 2 layers of overgrip... so i problem i face is when i need to replace the top layer of overgrip, i remove it... and sometimes find it has disintegrated and stuck to the bottom layer of overgrip.. so i need to replace both :crying: Can you recommend overgrips that do not have this problem? I guess one way is to use an inner layer of overgrip that is non-tacky and very smooth? (so it won't stick to the outer layer of overip?)
I use either 2 Yonex Supergraps or 1 YY with a Wilson Hipgrip on top, and they never stuck. I usually use a used grip as the first layer, so it's lost its tackiness.
The wooden handle is bevel-shaped with six sides. Maintaining the feel of this bevel-shaped handle/grip is critical for the full spectrum of strokes. If you use thick overgrips or thick replacement grips, you are changing the shape and feel of the handle from a six-sided bevel towards a round handle and grip. Now, MadMan, I am sure this is not what you have in mind. It would be better to get a bigger grip handle in the first place than a small one and then add on thick grips, which is the wrong way to get a thicker grip/handle.
