For the women's singles, it looks a bit bleak for Denmark. After years and years of Camilla Martin staying steadily high in the world rankings, there wasn't anyone to really challenge her in the Danish squad. With Tine Rasmussen injured, I can't really see any new and upcoming. It looks like they have some promising pairs in the women's doubles, with Helle Nielsen, Kamilla Juhl, Lena Frier Kristiansen. I suspect Pernille Harder and Mette Schjoldager will sadly not play a lot longer. Are there any promising stars in Denmark's youth? also: anyone have pictures?
Camilla Sorensen. She's only 20 or 21 still. If she can stay healthy and keep improving, she can be quite frightening in a few years time. I saw her played at the SC against Indonesia and am quite impressed though she eventually lost in 3.
Well, I saw Camilla Sorensen play in the French Open this week and she got thrashed by teammate Anne-Marie Pedersen... I think she still has a lot to prove before she can be considered a top player...
agree about Camilla Sorensen. Also agree about pictures I'm looking for pictures of Helle Nielsen. a little off topic here, but we were at the bar and grill across from the World Championships venue in Anaheim, and it was cool to have some danish team members sitting near us. non badminton players didn't know what a treat it was of course mette schjoldager was there, and helle nielsen, and thomas stuer lauridsen, jan jorgensen, kenneth jonassen, pernille harder. they rock!
I met Pernille Harder, Martin-Lungaard and another female player I didn't recognise at the car park outside the stadium on the semifinal Saturday. Didn't realise Martin-Lungaard is so big! Also, IMHO, Pernille is absolutely gorgeous.
I think she wastes a little too much energy jump smashing. She'd be better off working on her consistency and speed to match the Chinese and Koreans, IMHO.
BTW, did I hear Lene Koppen's daughter is an up-and-coming player now? Anyone have any details or have I just imagined it?
Yes the daughter of Lene Köppen, Marie Röpke, is a promising youngster with an amazing tehcnique .... She needs a little more speed in her game and if she gets that she can match the top players from asia insome years perhaps, but I guess it will be in doubles/ mix. She is not fast enough for singles
How old is she? Any other children of former top-class players on the way to becoming top-class players themselves? Does Kirsten Larsen have any children?
