Hey, I need some please... I have been invited by my club to do a county assessment, I really want to get in since I want to play badminton at a competitive level. Can someone please tell me what the peeps there are looking for and what u need to present as a player ? Thx
eh...hi first of all, what is a 'county assessment'? if its a test for something, then i would say: go and be yourself, try the best you can and hold your nerve... because its not that when we say you'll pass, then you indeed do, unless you give me more info bout what it exactly is and when.
Its basically a trial to see if u are good enough to join a national team... its coming next sunday and i am feeling a bit nervous since i dont know if I am good enough and whether i have enough chance of getting through I hope thats more info. A county assessment is basically a national badminton test to see if u good enough to join the team ... Thx, Sephiroth
NATIONAL TEAM?! what? where is Midgar? anyway if you have a few weeks to prepare, i would recommend some basic trainingprograms: -cardio(running as long as...) -flexibility(stretch legs to improve footwork) -jumping(fly maybe impress them ) these are examples that you can improve a bit in a few weeks time easily if you just keep up. if you have only a week or less, i suggest you go to the acupuncture immediately to prepare your mental mind. if you're so nervous, try to go to some doctor help you calm down. i understand you worried( i would be more ), so try to play a game only watching your mentality and mind, so you'd be controlling that too during the trial. thats all i can give, good luck!
Thank you for ur suggestions !! I dont it'll be that serious but I promise i'll try my best to do what u suggested So long, Sephiroth
National, huh? County is not national. A county is sort of a small region within England. For example, Surrey, Sussex, Yorkshire, Berkshire. There are about 40 counties in England. National is much harder than county!
i play in the league now for a club. How do you get into playing for the county? are there age groups? my friends and teachers say do you play for the county as they say im good at the sport but i say i play in the league. but i want to play for the county as well
can you tell us which country and which county? otherwise, it will be tough for anyone to give you any useful advice.
yo faster... ya i know it aint national but i think i was being a bit over exaggerated... sorry ! oh you wanted to know which area is was... Middlesex, England county if u wanted to know... Thank you, Sephiroth
Do things that look good 1) try to look like you think on court. 2) try to look like you enjoy the game. 3) respect your opponent 4) look like you care about winning 5) play fair Things that look bad (and create a bad impression) 1) shouting at yourself 2) swearing 3) not being polite to the opponent (but that doesn't mean giving them points!) 4) trying to rely on fancy shots. There are probably others but those are the main ones.
There are usually different county squads for different age groups - under 11, under 13, under 15, under 17 and the senior team. I got into my U15 county squad by attending a pre-season county training session which my coach recommended me to go to. The county coaches then selected me for the initial county training sessions, and some time in the next few weeks I will be told whether i have made it into the final squad. However, don't be disappointed if you don't make it to the squad as it doesn't really mean anything. More important is entering Badminton England junior tournaments held in various places throughout England which allows you get a national ranking and which allows you to compete amongst others of the same age group from around the country The badminton England website (www.badmintonengland.co.uk) tells you more.
Whoa, thats alot to go through faster... I got an invite this Sunday from my coach as well... i am quite nervous 'cause i really want to do this kind of thing but i dont know if i can make it ... Can u pleae tell me what the county coaches ask you to do in the training session ? Please go in-depth and describe whether its technique or sportsman ship etc. Do I even have to play one of their own team to see if i am good ? Please tell me so i can prepare, as i fear this is an opportunity i do not want to miss ! Thank you, Sephiroth
I won't be able to say for your county as I don't know the coaches, age group, etc. but for my county its similar stuff to what they look at in any sort of training. I think to a certain extent the main thing is how well you perform on court regardless of technique, etiquette etc because they want to win matches. So if you can beat other county squad members even if you have bad technique you should get in. However bear in mind that eventually you will need good technique to compete amongst top players because the most important part of the game and good technique is imperative if you want to improve. Basically don't try anything fancy because being able to win is THE most important thing. If you have all the tricks and techniques but freeze at match point it's not enough. Although being able to win is most important, good etiquette and technique will help massively.
Ya but that's still quite difficult. I am not county (even though i want to be), yet we still have to play them !? I could even win a few points but not beat them lol (sigh)... its my dream to play more badminton in a more competitive and constructive way but if the standards are too high... High can i reach higher ? I am 15 and my time is running out soon, so... Regards to the World, Sephiroth
Actually, if you make sure your technique is good, that would be half the battle over. You'd be surprised how many 'good' players can get complacent. A new person may also have the type of style that is difficult to play against. If you are 15 now, yes, you can definately go higher. But you need the right coach and a strong determination to improve. 15 might sound too late for county standard if you compare yourself to all the other juniors who might have bee playing serioulsy for the last 8 years. But I can assure you, it is not too late to raise your standard to that level if you are determined.
Thank you Cheung... but I dont know if I have time up my sleeve to pack all that in. In addition money is a problem when getting a coach . I'd love to give county a shot but i feel worried..(my county trial is tommorow) ...I went to a tournament and i played with non -county players yet i came 3rd and i didn't even come 2nd place. The other 2 peeps who beat me will still be going to the trial and i dont know if I can make it :crying: jeez it sounds as if i am begging lol .. eh.. (sniff) When i get accessed, do i play with county players or against the other people trying to get in ? Of course I will be assessed while I play but who do i play against? Anyway, Wish me luck tomorrow and to anyone who feels they are in my position... Sephiroth
good luck with it! don't worry, its not as if the coaches are going to put you against richard vaughn and tell u to play singles to 15 the coaches *should* be able to spot potential and ability.....just try to relax, be alert when u play, socialise when u are resting/relaxing, but try to watch others play, either to learn techniques, tactics, or to figure out how to beat them. obviously dont whip out the gameboy and start playing....or wander over to the girls' courts..... in all, relax and believe in yourself (but not showoff) and play as well as u can. if u make it, great, if not try to ask the coach what u need to do/improve on to make the team/squad and come back next year just don't freeze!! stay loose, warm up well and go thru the basics when knocking up....dont try to go in and smash as hard!!
The existing county squad will have to go to the trial too!! If it was anything like my county trial then the coaches will just treat it as a normal training session, and see how the players cope. Its better just to play as you would when you are playing at your club or whatever. Don't actually set out to try to impress as you'll end up trying too hard. Just play normally. If you have started playing seriously at the age of 15 then you are at a disadvantage but getting to the top level is definitely not impossible but bear in mind that you will have to train hard. The trick is to find the dedication. You just have to work extremely hard because there is a lot of catching up to do. Good luck in your trial.
K, well thanks for the advice "other" and "faster"... Here i go... Best Wishes, Sephiroth P.S. I'll reply with good news and I'll remain silent with bad news...
