Is it me or is it that Carlton rackets have a habit of chipping very easily. For example, the rasmussen superlite that just got now has a pretty visable chip on the shaft. My lite has chips around the whole frame, this one i got last year.

    yea, its prety much 50/50.
i've had clashes where there were no damage at all.
then i accidentally bump it against a metal net post and it puts a good half centimeter chip in it.
it makes me sad. for about... 10 minutes, where i'm literally spewing. then i stop and well, its only a racquet, afterall. :(

i got one superlite thats in perfect condition still... SINGLES USE ONLY from now on!
second one that has a 1 inch chip in it and various little chips along the side from another clash...
and a third one with a small half centimeter chip.

Do you know that the spray-painted colour scheme on your racquet is a useless skin that actually reduces the performance of your racquet? The paint would probably weigh 10g, and it is a wasted 10g that could have been replaced by 10g of extra high modulus graphite + matrix. Think about it. :D

same kind of thing as the fighter jets that were unpainted (apart from unit and country markings) and those that were painted (for camoflague). the unpainted ones had slightly better performance? but looked nicer:p (not the official reason i'm sure)

    Paint

I think that the spray paint makes the racket look nicer, distinguish it from other barnds. The paint chips stop mattering to me with my lite after about 3-4 chips that were all about one cm each. It usually is painful when it is the first one. But i play doubles with someone and he uses his mp 30 and mp 66, he bought the 30 about the same time i bought my lite and he throws his racket, hits it against poles, against walls, and he only has one visible chip. Could the paint control or quality control be better with Yonex?

We are too concerned about looks. In badminton racquets, looks are a sure sign of compromised quality. We are already being compromised by competing needs of racquet stiffness, frame elasticity specifically designed for stringing, and impact strength for clashes. At least these differing needs are real, but looks in the form of a painted skin at the cost of performance is vanity.

looks are nice..but not a reason to buy a racket..

i'm always confused when people (in the revieuw area) give a racket points extra for a nice paint job....talk about losing perspective.

    colour of rackets

If all the colours of the rackets were the same, then you cannot tell the different rackets apart. it's basically the characteristics. plus don't we all judge things based on their looks?

You know what? I am going to put my money where my mouth is by getting a few prototype racquets, with no paint, to try out. :D

If you do that your NS8000 will be off-spec., which you don't want to do. What you can do is first take off all the paint, then measure 10g of epoxy resin and find a way to spray or paint evenly over the frame and the shaft. This is easier said than done, because no do-it-yourself job can spread the epoxy resin evenly without upsetting the racquet's balance from different angles.

older carlton models don't chip very easily, especially the as-1, my new rasmussen tour seems to chip more easily than the as-1 when i lent my rasmussen tour to my dad and i was with him in doubles our rackets clashed, nothing happened to the as-1 but on the rasmussen tour about 1 inch of paint was missing. btw, my as-1 is at least 6 years old now... and it killed a mp99 and a new (being used the first time) ns8k

Racquet paint get chips because they are nothing but an extra weight burden that replaces the more important graphit composite that would otherwise be there. Graphite composites don't chip because they are the real working horses.

I don't think they will sell it to you, unless you have some inside information.

For me, the factory will do it although only when they are not busy rushing to complete orders. As a matter of fact they have just completed 20 customized Tep Version racquets for me. The normal minimum qty factory order any factory will consider is 1,000 racquets.
