Here's the relationship between the various past and current Indonesian badminton players: Siblings: Hastomo Arbi, Eddy Hartono, Hariyanto Arbi Markis Kido, Bona Septano, Pia Zebadiah Candra Wijaya, Rendra Wijaya (junior double players), Sandrawati Wijaya (yet to be in Pelatnas) the Mainaky brothers (Karel, Marleve, Rexy, Reony, Richard) Alan Budikusuma, Yohan Hadikusuma Wiratama (now representing HKG) Brother-in-Law: Hendrawan and Hendra Setiawan (Hendrawan married Hendra's sister, Silvi Anggriani which was also a former Pelatnas player) Candra Wijaya and Ronald Susilo (Candra married Ronald's sister, Caroline Indriani) Christian Hadinata and Rudi Hartono (this is the biggest surprise....the maestros' wives are actually sisters, Yoke Anwar and Jane Anwar!!) Some relation: Candra Wijaya and Hariyanto Arbi (Candra's brother, Indra Wijaya married the sister of Hariyanto Arbi's wife) Anybody can contribute more to this list?
My dad told me that Rudi Hartono's sister (which is also a former player from PELATNAS) married to a Canadian badminton player. So besides Indonesian players, Rudi is also related with an ex-Canadian badminton player. That's why Bola called it 'We are the smash family'...
Father-Son: Icuk Sugiarto/Tommy Sugiarto. There's got to be more parent-children relationships than this one?
If I'm not mistaken, Hermawan Susanto, Bronze medalist in Barcelona 1992, is Liem Swie King's nephew. Father and son relationship isn't as many as husband and wife relationship in Indonesian badminton...
how come nobody mentioned susi susanti and alan budikusuma --- the golden couple, (well, yea, theres alan and his siblings,,but not his marriage with susi)
As far as I know, I don't think we follow the practice of changing the bride's surname to follow the groom's. Married women still retained their surname, eg: Susi Susanti, Megawati Soekarnoputri (ex-president), Yayuk Basuki (the famous tennis player), etc. Ronald has been studying in Singapore since he was young and yes, he was from Indonesia. I believe he has converted his nationalities to be a Singaporean few years ago. And he hasn't played for the U.S. team before.
