Default Team Performance after China Open 2005

After China Open 2005, only 1 event is left for this year's WGP Event (Chinese Taipei Open starting next week). So, it is a good time to summarize the performance of each country for the various disciplines. China is so dominant in the women's singles and doubles that I have decided that it will be meaningless to compare their performance with the rest of the countries. So, I focus on three disciplines: MS, MD, and XD.

I have basically compiled the winners of every tournament in WGP with 1* and above (only exclude the Russian Open which was attended mostly by Russians). The list will therefore include tournaments like the New Zealand Open, Bitburger Open Int, Asian Badminton Championships, and China Masters. This gives a total of 19 tournaments (one 7* tournament, six 6* tournaments, eight 3* to 5* tournaments, and four 1* to 2* tournament )

As a summary, Team China heads the list with 13 titles across these 3 disciplines, followed by Team Indonesia with 11 titles, and Team Malaysia is in the no 3 spot with 8 titles. Team Korea and Denmark have 6 titles while Team England make up the top 6 with 5 titles. Team Thailand also has 2 titles to its credits thanks to Sudket/Saralee in the XD.

This is the list for each discipline:

    MEN'S SINGLES
    Team China 6 titles
    Team Malaysia 6 titles
    Team Indonesia 3 titles
    Team Denmark 3 titles
    Team Korea 1 title

    MEN'S DOUBLES
    Team Indonesia 6 titles
    Team China 4 titles
    Team Denmark 2 titles
    Team Malaysia 2 titles
    Team USA 2 titles
    Team Korea 1 title
    Team Australia 1 title
    Team England 1 title

    MIXED DOUBLES
    Team England 4 titles
    Team Korea 4 titles
    Team China 3 titles
    Team Indonesia 2 titles
    Team Thailand 2 titles
    Team Denmark 1 title
    Team NZ 1 title
    Team Poland 1 title
    Team Russia/Swe 1 title

So, Team Indonesia's performance is not bad...only losing to Team China by 2 titles....

    Default Updated list

With the conclusion of the Chinese Taipei Open, a total of 20 tournaments have been concluded. So, here's the updated list. No major change from last week with China, Indonesia, and Malaysia making the top 3. Korea surges to 4th after Lee Hyun Il's victory. Team USA, thanks to Tony Gunawan, has become the no 3 force in men's doubles with 3 titles, edging both Denmark and Malaysia.

This is the updated list for each discipline:

    MEN'S SINGLES
    Team China 6 titles
    Team Malaysia 6 titles
    Team Indonesia 3 titles
    Team Denmark 3 titles
    Team Korea 2 titles

    MEN'S DOUBLES
    Team Indonesia 6 titles
    Team China 4 titles
    Team USA 3 titles
    Team Denmark 2 titles
    Team Malaysia 2 titles
    Team Korea 1 title
    Team Australia 1 title
    Team England 1 title

    MIXED DOUBLES
    Team England 4 titles
    Team Korea 4 titles
    Team China 3 titles
    Team Indonesia 2 titles
    Team Thailand 2 titles
    Team Denmark 1 title
    Team NZ 1 title
    Team Poland 1 title
    Team USA/Taiwan 1 title
    Team Russia/Swe 1 title

So, all the WGP events in 2005 have been concluded. Attention now turns to SEA Games and end of the year invitational tournaments (World Cup and Copenhagen Masters).
