    1. Try a search for smash power in the techniques/training forum

    2. Get a coach to teach you the basics

    3. Dont buy a more expensive racket

    4. Dont restring your racket

    5. Practice your stroke cycle

I would agree with all advices in general.. But objectively I do not think just using option 3) and 4) would be a good way to try to increase the "smash-hitting power" :p

I dont think you will get a significantly faster smash by switching to an older racket and older strings :)

    Increase smashing power

    Hi,
To increase yr smashing power, u need not only proper technique but also strong arm, wrist and finger power. Do carry dumbell n weigts to strengthen yr arms, use weight rolling to strengthen yr wrist and use yr fingers to squeeze and roll newspaper into ball shape, as small as u can. Do exercise about 20 to 25 mins for each exercise till u are exhausted. ;) If u are disciplined and diligent in yr routine, u will soon see result.:D Power unlimited:eek:

    Practice, practice and more practice.

Firslty make sure you are hitting the string-bed in the optimal position. You will know if you are doing it right because it will make a `bang` kind of sound instead of the higher pitched sound. If you are hitting the shuttle in the right place on the racquet, then make sure you are hitting it in the optimal height and position relative to your body to get a good smash angle.

If you can do the above 2 well you will have a good smash anway. If you want more power you should look at making sure your whole body is going in to smashed (ie using abs...etc, aswell as your arm muscles).

Thats the best advice here, just practice and your muscle will get used to the effort, weights are not a necessity. Remember even top players dont smash when they are not in the position to do it, they rather clear or drop. A good position to smash is having the shuttle in front of you with the time to execute the right movement, use your abs and hips movement (if u r righthanded, right hip goes from back to front, giving you more power)
    Hope this helps.

turning your body is important too. when u r in ur ready position, make sure u r turning a full 90 degrees. this makes the smash almost effortless.

also pridict where u want to hit the bird and swing ur racquet before the bird gets to the prefered spot, this way u would more likely be hitting the sweet spot instead of let's say...the rim:p

Loosen up your grip a little when you are about to smash,

right before your racquet gets into contact with the birdie, tighen your grip for more power.

Technique is also everything. You may have the best racquet but if your technique is crap, no point.

It also depend on your swing speed, if you swing slow, maybe medium stiff racquet may suit you. If you swing fast, a extra-stiff racquet will provide more power.

Try to grip the handle at the butt end. For some strange reasons gripping the racquet towards the extreme butt end makes it so much easier to have the right smashing technique without even really trying.
