In the Ming Pao Daily paper today (2005,11,18, friday). It was reported a 17 year old taiwanese girl who was attending boarding school in toronto died during badminton practice in the morning. It was 7:45 in the morning when she was practicing and just fell over and lost consciouness. She was rushed to the hospital and later certified at 9:30. Her cause of death is still unknown at the moment. :(

there was a death of a man while playing badminton in my state club earlier this year..
both are the same incident as the girls.....

Yeah. This was all over the radio, but unfortunately was no where to be found on the Toronto Star even though it happened here. My condolecences to the girl.

On a side note. Somebody mentioned the Avian Flu as a related cause. I really don't see a connection here. It may just have been some sort of problem she had genetically or for a while. There's no proof the Avian Flu was the cause.

    Little girl

    Hi Nephrus,
There are cases like this happened everywhere. i heard from my friend in Singapore, there was a young man abt 23 yrs old playing street soccer just collapsed during the game and died.:crying: There were also cases of an old gentleman who collapsed when playing badminton game.:crying: Sometimes, it may due to bubble or blister in arteries that burst and causes the fatality. The best is to go for yearly medical check-up even if one is young.Sorry for this little girl.:( It is really sad for such a young person to pass away.:(

I knew of this girl since her school is my school's 'sister' school, and since the badminton community isn't very large everyone's heard of everyone. It was really shocking for me personally when we heard what happened, I was at school then too. I'm still confused as to why a thing like this would happen to her, whose name i don't feel necessary to disclose.

I can tell you though, that it wasn't from the fall, nor was it from avian flu that she died from. She had chronic health problems which to this day no one's been able to clearly explain. And a few days before the morning practice, she already noticed she couldn't eat well, and was in different sorts of bodily disconfort. So, it was under these conditions that she insisted on going to practice and the worst imaginable happened. I can't imagine what it's like for her parents, who were in taiwan when notified...

Anyway, its really good that you guys brought it up and acknowledged this. Thank you, and peace to her and her family.

its horribly wrong under any circumstance, to have a child pass away before their parents' time.

    my condolences.

i listened to the news on news. the representative of the school (teacher i think) said that they are not aware of any allergy or illness in her. they had also performed professional cpr when the event occured. about the case of the soccer player that died during a chest block, i think the heart died due to applied shock. however, i have heard of a diesease that stop people's heart without any reason (no idea the name). i have a friend who has this illness and the heart can stop at any time with out showing any symptoms. it doesnt affect the person's life directly and most probably, the person might not even be aware of the presence until it strikes. the doctor suggested my friend to not participate in sporting events to decrease this probability. perhaps it is related:?

    peace be with them

My friend was there when it happened....she was crying over it. According to her, the girl suffered a seizure and passed away soon after. And yes, the school is a "sister boarding school" of another boarding school.

    Gold bless her soul.
