I see an abundance of china made shuttlecocks... however im tentative to try them. Most are attractively priced. Do you guys know which brands are good?

While back in Singapore, I have played with some Indonesian brand shuttles. Cannot remember the name of the brand, but pretty sure they are not made in China.

yes, i have too played with indo made shuttles.
They are usually of low end shuttles, made with duck or chicken feathers.
no serious players outside INA use them.

i think the shuttlecock you mentioned is

    Gadjah Mada and Indocock

both of them are IBF approved

and both of them are being used for national championship in Indonesia

1 year Indocock then next year Gadjah Mada

    that's all i know

The IBF approved list is here. I played with Gadjah Mada once. They were worse than nylon. I was assuming they must have been the wrong model. My friend from Indonesia seemed to think they were the IBF approved ones but they must have changed the tube colour on him or something because there is no way the IBF could have approved such a poor product.

But doodleboy, what do you really mean? Since virtually all feather shuttles (at least) are made in China, might you be talking about shuttles OEM'ed to other Chinese companies rather than to Carlton, Yonex, Gosen or Tronex or whatever?

Sorry, we posted at the same time. Victor is a Taiwanese company and is well-respected. Kason is Chinese but possibly Hong Kong and their shuttles are fairly good. What brands do you mean? The link with the IBF-approved brands seems to include some brands that might be Chinese. If you don't know the company and the price seems low, you're probably right to be hesitant. Even the wrong model from a big company can be a waste of money. We have two brands here that are really heavy: Samhwa 501 and the Victor Champion (without the crucial No. 1 sticker, you might as well be playing tennis).

There are a few shuttles missing from that list either because they were omitted and/or their license expired.

Another factor could be the IBF lists the lowest grade that's still approved. For instance, the MMOA Select is IBF approved; but not listed is the Super and Ultra Select which are definitely better shuttles.

I tried Indos top-of-the-line shuttle (at least that's what they told me). It was in a black tube with white writing and cost $5US per tube. They were not good.
