Hehe, I'm in a "sucking" rut right now for a few days. Hopefully it'll wear off by the tournament in two days, haha. Phil
Go here's discussion board (How to play better badminton) for some advice! http://www.geocities.com/shandvi88/photos.html And some good photos too!
hehehhe i get those all the time....some days, i can drop or smash from anywhere on the court....other days, and miss clears......it gets really funny sometimes when the bird hits my head....
ok. this is official: the folks at badmintonplanet.com is annoying the hell out of me. more than 20 completely irrelevent posting just promoting their website today. abusing this site for advertising purpose. i hope other people have better netiquette than this.
I find that I my suckyness is largely dictated to by the suckyness of the games I am playing. If I start a evening practise with a pants game I do not play well that night unless I take an hour out doing routines. In a tournament or a match I am alright until I play somebody weak, then my game collapses for the remainder of the day. I also cannot play well for two consecutive days, so games the day before a tournament are banned. This is what I have convinced myself works over the past few years.

This guy is a really annoying spammer; what a jerk!... Would the forum owner kindly filter out all postings from that addr and its variations? Sorry if it may be a lot of extra work. I think we'd all be most appreciative... I'll make a mental note to avoid that BadmintonPlanet.com website like a plague... Oh, sorry, never mind... Looks like Kwun had clean them all up already. What a swift action. Good admin work. Superb.
BIG tip If you are playing on a doubles club night, before you play your first game, if you get the opportunity, play a competitive game of singles flat out (with your partner if if you have one) When you get on to play your doubles game you will be at your peak, and your opponents won't be able to react in time if they haven't done the same. Try it and see! UKP
Re: BIG tip I would be so wasted that I probably wouldn't be able to do much the rest of the night ;D But you are right, if you are in good shape and you can use the game of singles with your partner to warm each other up.
Re: BIG tip That's what you think though, you'll be wasted But I found that it actually boosts your energy because you're playing on such a high The difference between playing a game and the normal club night warm up is you don't get the mental aspect, the adaptation to the court and the fine tuning of your strokes. If you play a game of doubles without this you probably won't get it all night. Give it a go!
Re: BIG tip i agree! i actually find that to be true as well. it seems like a good games of singles really loosens up all the tension built up on the muscles. and to add, look for a good warmup partner. i find that some warm up partner warms me up better than others.
Re: BIG tip and its theory. No doubt this works. I'd like to take the view that the reason is one's muscles and brain have been tuned up to 'match speed' (faster pace) rather than boosting one's energy levels. Physiolgically, there will be more adrenaline circulating and greater blood flow to various organs which would not be so in a limited warmed up state.
Re: BIG tip true, there is a definite improvement in your double games if one play a single game before. Just have at least 1 one rest/hydration prior to the real double match. Prior to the real double match, practice the quick drive strokes. Kwun, u r so lucky that u have so many partners to choose from to warm up
Re: BIG tip and its theory. I am with Peter. One competitive game of singles and I have to take an early shower. I think the priciple behind a game of singles to start the night is sound, but it might be that it provides the decent warm up that the body needs. Adding aspects of a singles game to your warm up , such as elements of competition and commitment to good positioning after each shot, should have the same effect and is much more applicable when it really counts, ie tournaments and matches.
oh, one more thing. try changing to a very different racket. i was sucking really bad one day using my iso900, changed to a cab20, and then i was playing great! what really works is to do more drills, and gain consistency, but that's hardly the "quick" solution.
