just to show u how wacky calgary weather is:

    1. calgary is colder and yet can be warmer than vancouver
    2. calgary is around 1100m above sea level and yet can have pressure higher than sea level vancouver.

we need big racket bag to carry shuttles of all sort of speeds to accomodate various playing condition (weather) :(

Whats the temperature like inside on the court? Isn't that what dicates the shuttle you should be using?

Wouldn't air pressure be lower in Calgary since it is higher up? Calgary is very wacky when it comes to shuttle speed requirement - Speed 74 for summer and speed 75 for winter.

temperature of courts can varies alot from club to club and season to season. To save energy costs, most clubs in winter dont bring the court temperature to room temp, more like 15 C. In summers, court temp. can reach 25-27C due to no A/C or dehumifier.

this I dont get, i got today's weather of jakarta, barometric pressure is only 88.4 kPa.

    Jakarta, Indonesia
    CURRENT CONDITIONS
    75°F
    (24°C)

    Cloudy

    Rel. Humidity: 88%
    Wind: SSE at 3 mph (5 km/h)
    Sunrise: 5:31 AM
    Sunset: 5:58 PM
    Barometric Pressure: 26.1"Hg (F)

if jakarta has lower barometric pressure (88.4 versus 100-104 kPa in calgary), higher air temp, higher humidity, i dont know why they are using speed 77-78 shuttles?

Why do you use fast shuttle @ cold temperature and slow ones in a warm court?

Aah, finally a thread on this topic...
Regarding this, i personally can attest, that *most* shuttles used in Indonesia DOES NOT work well in the U.S. I've been bringing back to the state, several brands of Indonesia-made shuttles over the last 2 yrs., but when i used them, they all either are *too slow* or *too fragile*. Sure, there are a few brands i bought from Indonesia which fly and endured "reasonably" well in the U.S., but overall most of them don't fly nor last so well.
I personally do not know the reason why, but my hunch is the different humidity between N.A.(cooler and drier) and S.E. Asia(warmer and humid).

But on another note, i've bought some Yonex Aerosensa 3 & 4(for about US$12-13) shuttles from Singapore, and they all fly well here in the U.S. I also bought(for about US$16-17) from S'pore and like the Wilson WS-400 shuttles(with has a blue packaging). It says it's for practice shuttle, but it sure *flys* and *last* real nice here, almost feel like a Yonex shuttle...

78 all the way over here. I heard VRC maybe switching to 79 if they have not done so (since it was getting colder)

we get shuttles one a year, our club.
10 boxes or so, 50 tubes each...all teh same speed...

any problems: tipping is teh answer...

what wrong with that? as long as they last about a set (without mis-hits) in training...
