How much does slicing your shots reduce the life of strings by?

I hardly ever use slice shots, and my strings last 3-4 months, but my friends who use lots of sliced smashes and drops seem to break a string at least every couple of weeks.

Does it really do a lot of damage? I use BG-66 and BG85 which aren't exactly known for durability.

I think I need more sliced shots to increase the variety of my game but am curious as to how much this will effect string life.

bg 65 and bg85 ARE very durable..just afaik they don;t hold tension well: they stretch but don't break!

the general consensus here seems to be that bg85 is not too durable.

Slicing does more damage to your string than hitting flat and hard so it'll significantly reduce your string life. I'd say by 50%. If 66/85 is lasting you 3-4 months, expect 1.5-2 months of string life now once you incorporate slicing.

    That's still a long time. :D

Actually, I believe it's the other way around. Most of my friends and I noticed the life span of string will be greatly reduced (say 25-50%), if you rely heavily on slice strokes. That's the reason I have to give up Bg85 and settle on BG80 lately. I used to be able to use BG85 for at least 2-3 weeks, but after using slice strokes a lot, the life span is as short as a week. :crying:
