Hi! Sometimes people say to me that badminton is a lazy game the only thing you do is to stand still and hit the birdie! That is not true right! I want them to watch a badminton video Lin Dan VS Peter Gade and see if they still think badminton is a lazy sport!;)

You mean they think tennis is far more active? I guess you could say so if the players go around picking up the tennis balls themselves. But then, I'd rather be using that time actually playing rather than picking up balls.

Tennis players are really lazy. They get ballboys/girls to collect the balls for them;)

The cause of this idea is that they play with an objective to hold the shuttle in the air as long as possible, instead of hitting it to the opponent's ground by all means.

You don't need a video of world class players. Just you and another proficient player playing competitively in front of them is enough.

Many narrow minded people just live in their own mind. They talk and talk w/o knowing anything at the 1st place. The problem is, they are the ones putting on the wrong identity to a sport that they don't understand to start with.

To me, there's no point of even argue with them. If they think this way, let it be. As long as there are true fans who willing to work hard to love and play the game, good enough. ;)

Here in the Philippines, when our national players from all the sports are subjected to their yearly battery of tests (to audit their health and performance), the lowest scores always go to the members of the bowling team. The highest scores always go to the members of the boxing team.

The second highest scores always go to the members of the badminton team (but maybe this is unique to the Philippines and not true for other countries).

(The head coach of our national team, Coach Martin Araneta, was the one who told me this.)

Its obviously not, people who play competitive badminton or even just beginner badminton have to get the shuttle ( arm strength) over the net, past singles line clearing and spiking all takes arm strength or even knowing how to swing your arm. Fast reflexes ,constant eye hand coordination, thinking about where to hit the shuttle next , explosiveness, constant stretching , running, sprinting, skipping, quicksteps. On top of that theres, 90, 180, 360 degree turns you have to do , juumping, also have to control your strength for drops, cuts, slices. Defnitly not a lazy sport , in fact one of the most demanding ones.

i find thats one of the most irritating things people say when you tell them you play badminton. they dont grasp how quick and how energetic the game is

they do soften a little when you give a few comparitive speeds (which is always what i do to keep the peace)

    well hit baseball 140mph
    well hit golf ball 170mph
    well hit tennis ball 160-180mph
    well hit shuttle 200mph+

i find something like that usually stops the silly comments more than anything else

PS: hello all, this is my first post

    Er, hang on.

I though the world record tennis serve is Andy Roddick's 152mph. And surely the serve is the fastest shot in tennis.

Anyway, hi! Welcome to BC :D

Hum looks like you were a 3 off, its 155mph by Roddick, http://news.bbc.co.uk/sportacademy/hi/sa/tennis/features/newsid_2181000/2181658.stm

Anyways i agree and dont think badminton is a lazy sport...just show them what it takes. i know some players at school think its lazy and doesnt require alot of skill, but one morning they watched me and my friend play a singles game...lots of people were watching that game some were like "damn" others "there the best here, crazyness" etc it was nice to be hearing all that. Plus i think it made some of them relize how intense it can be...i feel that i have done something right.

sorry to say that rusedski didnt get a serve or shot that high, andy's is the fastest clocked, rusedski however had "His blistering 149mph was set during the ATP Cup in Indian Wells, California on 14 March 1998." thats from my site in my earlier post, im pretty confident that site has correct information but if anybody can prove me wrong by all means do.

... for the poeple never play badminton. They just can hit the ball.
I think most all poeple can hit the ball, but not so many can play them properly.

Badminton is really tired sport, especially if you have to run alot in single compare to double.

But of course both of them need good stamina & skill.

    Agree.

I'd say 100 m sprint isn't much sweat, if you ain't running:p And basketball really is a "girls game", unless you try to get a rebound from some +++210cm and +++120kg NBA players, ouch:cool: Want more examples?

Actually every sport can be (and is) done in a "recreational" and a competing way. There is *big* differance between them.

Let those who says badminton is a lazy game try to play with someone you know is decent. Have these people run for the shuttle playing clear-drop to all corners just so they manage to reach it, don't make a winning strike but let them run until they fall out of exhuastion. Then serve for the next point.....and tell them a set goes to 15:p In the second set start hitting winners with the first strike, when possible on the serve, otherwise smash or drop a winner after their first return, should shut them up for a while:D Hopefully you can do this yourself, or have someone who is "just" a swedish B/C-klass player execute this humiliation. Then tell those previously so cocky people what a differance there is to the top ten world class players.

    /mats
