NST Dec 13: THERE were no surprises as the seeded players breezed past their respective opponents in the National Grand Prix finals that got underway in the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex in Likas yesterday. A total of 16 players are in the men's singles, eight in the women's singles and eight pairs each in the men's, women's and mixed doubles. The finals, which end tomorrow, is the culmination of the national grand prix circuit where two earlier qualifying tournaments were held in Kedah and Pahang. Among those who proved their billing yesterday were Manila Sea Games women doubles gold medallists Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty who crushed Jeslyn Pang and Nairul Suhaida Latif 15-2, 15-3 to lead their group. The men's doubles also saw top seeds Chan Chong Ming-Koo Kien Keat outplay Ang Seong Leng-Chang Hung Pin 15-1, 15-7. In the men's singles Lee Chong Wei, Wong Choon Hann, Mohd Roslin Hashim and Yeoh Kay Bin all advanced in their respective groups. Chong Wei thrashed national junior Vountus Indra Mawan 15-1, 15-0, Choon Hann beat Chan Kwong Beng 15-3, 15-6, Roslin outplayed Lok Chong Chieh 15-12, 15-6 while Kay Bin defeated Lee Hock Lai 15-11, 15-6. Men's singles — Group A: Lee Chong Wei bt Vountus Indra Mawan (15-1, 15-0) and Mohd Hazwan Jamaluddin (15-1, 15-2); Lee Tsuen Seng bt Hazwan Jamaluddin (15-11,15-4) and Vountus Indra Mawan (15-8-15-4). Doubles: Chan Chong Ming-Koo Kien Keat by Ang Seong Leng-Chang Hung Pin (15-1, 15-7). Group B: Yeoh Kay Bin bt Lee Hock Lai (15-11, 15-6) and Law Yew Thien (15-1, 15-2); Law Yew Thien bt Lim Kenn (7-15, 15-10, 15-11); Group C: Roslin Hashim bt Loh Chong Chieh (15-12, 15-6) and Tan Chun Seang (15-3, 15-11); Tan Chun Seang bt Azrihanif Azahar (15-7, 15-12).
