Hello all, I was just talking with our clubs international team member and badminton shuttle company owner . He was on his way to Taiwan to deal with this crisis. I was not keeping up with world news, I know many birds are sick. I just did not know that the goose we all get feathers from were in danger? Shuttles here in Southern California are $18.00 a tube for Blue HL, that works out to $1.50 per shuttle. It seems like the price has stayed the same for the last 10 to 15 years for us. I know you can get YONEX AR50 shuttles for $28.00 a tube, but they don't last as long! They are nice but for regualr play they are not worth the extra $10.00 bucks. I was hoping that everyone would get involved and find out where are sport may be going if the feathers all dry up? Just wanted to ask everyone what they thought about the subject, I DON'T WANT TO SCARE ANYONE OR CAUSE A HUGE CONCERN!!!!! I on the other hand will be purchasing for christmas 10 or so tubes just in case! Keep hitting the little white guy till there are not anymore! Try the new scoring system, its fast and quick! Good for old skilled players. cheers

You can buy significantly less expensive shuttles:$10-$12/tube. The reason why the blue HL (Champion) is $18/tube is, it's a tournament quality shuttle. When you get talk about tourney quality shuttles, that's actually quite reasonable. Going back to your question about the Bird Flu, yes, it has affected shuttle pricing. It stinks.
The economics of it all I've heard that Avian Flu is not the direct cause of shuttle price rises and that it is to do, rather, with China's economic boom and rising labour prices. Anyone care to enlighten us? As for AS50's lasting for no time at all, i find that hard to believe! They're the best shuttles on the market bar none.
I have to disagree with "bar none". True, the AS50 probably flies the best but it's definitely not the most durable shuttle. The AS50 is one of the best but there are others out there that give it an overall run for its money. Bar none for a shuttle is just too harsh; at least for me.
Yonex shuttles sold in France are pretty bad actually... don't know how it is abroad. Otherwise, I haven't noticed any rise in prices for the moment but it might come...
Yesterday a friend purchased a tube of AS50s from SGVBC and the price went from $26/tube to $36/tube!
The shuttles (new batch of SOSAN black) that we played with yesterday was of real mediocre quality; on an average we went through 6-7 shuttles per game compared to 3-4 normally ...
i think its all Lies .... I think they are just using it as an excuss to raise prices Like the oil industry.... exxon made more money last year than any company in US business history
I won't call it completely lying. The truth is the supply is limited, and the demand is still there. With relatively limited resources, the quality will go down, and price will be up. Of course, which one takes how much percentage in the whole scenario is unknown.
Avian flu scarce may have inflated the price of feather shuttles. However, I think the major reason for the apparent general lower quality of shuttles is the increased global demand for them. As the market pressure mounts, quality control is letting lower quality stocks that would have gone to lower grades into higher ones.
ha ha; thats true; I have not been to Kerala in about 5 years, so I dont know how the current situation of the accessibilty of feather shuttles....
WOW, you guys must pound them real hard, that's an average of 2.5 points (5 rallies) per shuttle! Cheers!
