Its a method of tensioning to optimise the usage of the string. It enhances your sweet spot of the racket by up to 40% and if your are a season players you will notice that shots made by you when the shuttle hit the sweet spots is faster on your chops and more powerful on your smash as the tension applied to the sweet spot is more than those by the side. All the stringers that i know of inclu (bras basah, queensway sembawang stc, dun do this either they r not trained or dun provide becoz of the tediousness). I f i m not wrong the other stringer who do this goes by the name of Abdullah who is the only Singaporean to achieve the prestigous Master Stringer Title from USRSA. (World Recognition, in order to apply you must have string at least 10000 rackets if i m not wrong.)
However, this method is very tedious and very "lei chay". 99% of the stringers dun do this unless they r paid more becoz normal stringing takes about 1/2 hr to be completed but Progressive takes an extra 10-15min more. Add to the fact that you must always remember to switch back to the normal tension to balance(if you forget, the racket go out of shape then you must take out the string n restring again and if you have finished them then u reliase they r out of shape u have to cut the string!! ), its no wonder local stringers do not provide this service. You have to change the tensions of the machine on certain strings and must remember to balance them properly. There are too many steps involved to be described here. If you r interested i can show you how it is done on saturday provided you and i have the time hehe....
Most stringers in Singapore set a flat tension for your rackets throughout. That means that if you ask for 26 lbs, they will probably apply 26 pounds for you on every string. Maybe some will apply 1 or 2 ibs more on the main as they want to minimise tension loss as the mains are longer than the cross and hence might actually be less than 26lbs after 1 or 2 games thus creating an unbalance racket.
Simon hope this helps.

Thanks for the invite, but I do not think we are in a position to accept your invite. Currently we are just a group of players showing up every Saturday morning, having a blast playing and before returning to our daily grind. We do have some regulars who come every week, maybe around 50% and the rest is an evolving group that changes from week to week.

Friendly....Originally Posted by Alanp
Appreciate your invitation. However, as mentioned by theforceisback, we r just a social group which doesnt even have more than 6 regulars. Some just turn up when they r free. Theres no commitment for everyone to permanently play every week (altho we encourage that). Its possible for a friendly match when our group more or less settle down and at least we know who are the regulars who can commit. BTW Intermediate/Advance level is always "grey". I have met players who claims to be advanced but plays like beginner and beginners that plays like pros. The friendly will be a failure if prople dun get to enjoy their games due to the gulf in standards maybe. Therefore its probably good that you come down and guage the level of play 1st lest it disappointed you.
If you are really itchy for a friendly, i can arrange 1 solid one for you. Not with this group first tho which hasn't stablised yet but with my own team and you will prolly has to do some organising, booking of courts b4 you inform me etc.
*Last week turnout was exceptionally good. Must thanks eric and pal for injecting youth & vigor into our group. You guys must come down more often. In fact everyone should lolz.

This week have to change the venue because late last night Sunder who usually does the booking called me up and said that he's got some problem with his PC so he cannot do the booking for this week. I cannot connect at 7am to book because I am on my way to work, so decided to teach my wife to do the booking, and she was doing it for the first time so managed to get only courts at Gombak. By the time I got to work at 7:30am all the courts at CCK was booked. So proceeded to pay the courts at BG.
